Hi Guys - Been a while - Question

Greetings all,

So, having played at release in 97' but left for Darktide server in AC late 99', find myself back here to where it all began. Fired UO up on a trial account on a whim and several weeks later find myself continuing to login; so figured out how to get my old account back and have a mage/archer on Siege, which is where I'll be playing. I have the skills where they left off, but oddly enough no gold in the bank and yes I did "balance" and it's zero. lol Odd.. No biggy though, getting gold now.

It's been a long time so pardon my memory, but I thought everyone on Siege was red but doesn't seem that way. I must of confused it with Darktide. Anyway, I was "nefarious" upon logging in and now "dread", which I don't understand since I've only been killing mobs to get equipment and gold. Also, I logged in blue and now red. Any idea why?

I need to figure out this new town-war thing; whatever it's called, but keep getting some message warning me if I don't leave an area... blah blah blah... confused how that works.

I'll be looking for a guild as in about a week I'll be ready to place a house and would prefer to do so near guild-mates. I love PVP, obviously and tend to enjoy playing a good guy; in other words, unless we are at war with a guild or a player, prefer not to attack them just because the game allows me to.

Just wanted to stop in and say hey. If anyone can tell me why I'm red, I'd appreciate it. It's not due to murder count.

Also, it's absolutely driving me nuts that the game won't save my UI settings. Yes, I have the same named character on multiple shards. So, if I reinstall the game and only log in to my one character on Siege, will that solve the problem? I'm using the EC because the CC won't freakin let me change the resolution without a fatal error and crash. Absurd!!

Hey China! There is a guild called NOOB. It is headed up by Tanager. They help new players to Siege get on their feet and get a feel of the server before choosing a guild that best fits their play style.

Siege has Blues and Red like all shards. The only difference is Siege doesn't have a Trammel side. With the exception of towns and New Magincia the whole shard is PvP capable

Not sure why your going Red. What are you killing?

The Town War thing is Called Vice Vs Virtue. For now I would steer clear of it until you get a bit more established. If you get a prompt to take a moongate then take it.

If you remember your acc name or email, you can easily get it - but you need to access the email it was registered to. If not, you need to find the acc name and email support, provide either cc info it was withdrawn from or any upgrade/registration code you used.

I was killing Solen Infiltrators, but getting "you've gained a good amount of karma" message, so how am I going negative?

Should I really join NOOB? I mean, yea I need to learn the game again, but my skills are 90+ What do you suggest?

For negative karma you need to kill positive karma creatures like fairies, unicorns, fairy dragons, serpentine dragons etc.

For the EC issue, make sure that you log out using ESC and choosing the official logout option. Just X'ing out of the game window (or crashing) will almost always cause it to fail to save any recent changes to the UI. Having chars of same name on other shards shouldn't effect it.

As for NOOB, I do sometimes accept returning players even with high skill. The guild isn't just about helping people train a new character; that can be accomplished in a matter of days. NOOB is more about helping players get their footing on the shard and find a home here. There are a few ground rules (mostly just remain neutral until you graduate in a month). If you get settled sooner, there is no commitment to finish out the month or anything.

But I'm not killing positive karma creatures. All my kills give messages that I've gained karma. So weird. What's the down side to being red vs blue on Siege? If I'm attacked in town will the guards be ok with it?

That's what I do. I log out how I'm supposed to and have tried it in inns, etc etc..every which way and nothing helps. My UI won't save. I may just remove and reinstall to see if that fixes it.

Is there a way to resign from it? The info. says there is, but when I go to my Guild tab, nothing, since I'm not in a guild. Not a big deal, just can't for the life of me figure out how to leave it.

Below is the image on the instructions, but in the enhanced client, can't locate it. Perhaps if I was included due to being in a war town too long, this doesn't happen. No idea.

Are people attacking you? Sounds like you were just in a town the turned VvV. As Freja said, you'll need to die to another orange player.

You are not really in VvV, just being flaged orange for being in an active VvV town or attacking/healing a VvV.
The reason you become orange is to stop blue chars making trouble in a VvV fight.
If still orange, drop all your gear in bank and ask a VvV to kill you and you will become blue again.

To join VvV and get the VvV tag over your head, you do need to be in a guild and join VvV from the guild interface. You do not have ful access to guild interface if not in a guild.

As for the NOOB guild I would highly recommend it.I am currently in the guild and they have been great too me, would recommend it to anyone. My time with NOOB is is very near the end and will be looking for a guild myself.Welcome back.

Hate to belabor this, but the inability to save my UI is a royal pain in the behind. I've reinstalled and still no dice. I log out as I'm supposed to.

So question, do any of you use Pinco's User Interface (I think I can say that since I understand that is a legal program) and if so, do you recommend it with the EC and do you think it may solve my problem?

EDIT: Just tried that and even logged out inside an Inn using the menu log-off. Won't save interface.

I would prefer the CC myself but it won't let me change resolution. I get fatal error every time.

A 19+ year old game written in C and they can't solve these most basic issues is pretty frustrating. I contacted support, but no help.

Thanks FrejaSP for your suggestion. I did that and worked it all out.... thank goodness. Was driving me up a wall.

Problem solved. In lieu of what Mervyn said on the UO Hall Forum, I continued to mess with my BitDefender antivirus and once I disabled other modules and (what I actually think did the trick) added the three .exe files to exceptions, got it all to save. Even with Anti-virus turned back on, it's all saved.

lock your karma and it will only go down. Get a cloak of corruption and you should be at max negative in an hour or less

1) Home Placement: Is it only in Fellucia where I can place a structure?

2) Death on an Island or Boat: If I die on a boat or remote Island without a boat, am I screwed? ;p

1) Fel, Malas, Tokuno - and Ter Mur, once you earn enough loyalty.

2) Pretty much, yep. You can use help-stuck to get to a city and rezzed and then hopefully you have a spare key or kept the rune in a runebook. You can give friends or guild mates a copy of your ship's key or rune, or lock one down somewhere for folks to gate off of and get to you on your ship if they have correct access.
