Hey DEVs Gypsy Camps are back but...

So, I have been trying to find this new deco item the Devs eluded to however I have killed about 600 Gypsy camps, that is about 2500 Gypsies and nothing in the way of new deco items. About 1 in 20 has a stack of regs or gems, in fact one had both. The chest look looks like it did before the revamp. Not one has had a stack of regs or gems.

Gypsies now can have armor on them with mid range mods but that is about the only change I see. Would really like to get some DEV clarification on the checks and new deco items. Are they in the loot table and I am just having that bad a time with RNG or were the items removed from the loot table when you shut them down?

I also had a thought that maybe, just maybe, a thief has to use the Smuggler's Edge to obtain the new items or the checks. The account with my thief is closed so I cannot test that theory. Anyone wanna give it a try?

Same boat with you... I have killed a few hundred spawns and got nothing... pretty much given up on it now. I dont believe there is anything special dropping and I have yet to have a dev or anyone report something different.

I did a lot of chest picking too and the main reason was:

There is something new in the loot list for Gypsy camps that is very rare. I'd be surprised if anyone finds one on Test Center before the publish is rolled out. But, who knows?

The check is pretty rare, but the items in question are quite a bit rarer than that.

Before everyone starts building high expectations, let me just say that the new items are cosmetic only, with no useful game effect. They are rare and hard to come by, and do something not seen in the game before, but that's it.

I agree with you, we need an explanation about how rare these items are.

Yes , ive been killing them also, and have found more regs and gems on there corps then in the chests.

But the camps are poping up all over now, not just in a few places like before..

I have noticed that if they pop to closse to a house the chest wont spawn just the tent still.


Why dont they just remove the tent but keep the gipsies spawning the same as the brigands do, that way all the chests will spawn..

Some Dev love would be nice...been doing this since start

I lvl a Lock picker doing it and getting remove trap up at the same time..

So, you're supposed to kill them? I thought just open the chests? I'll try the killing thing next time.

Also, how do you open the chest in the tent? Can't pick a lock on it, and can't just open it!

The tent chest is just deco.

As far as killing the gypsies, I hate to do that. But I have been opening chests and such without much success. Only thing I have gotten is regs, no extra gems and definitely not anything cool.

I tried picking chests for a while, got a few gems for imbuing, but in the end I decided it was more rare than my patience could stretch to and abandoned the search.

My records are 60 diamonds stack and 1176 garlic stack (2 different chests tho). Some more stacks of random numbers between 10 and 100 of a given reg.

No special item as of yet. I don't murder the gypsies. I just pick and disarm the chests with my old faction trap remover who lives in a tower at the buccs gate and has lots of camps spawn around the shack.

I play when I get free time at work(ie, break or lunch). It isn't always for very long so I try to do things that are not too involved. I also play at home after work sometimes and on the weekends. But I have been pretty bored of UO lately, so I try and do new things. A chance at a cool deco item and I don't have to get too involved? Well, that is the way I roll!

MAde me wonder why we were being encouraged to kill the gypsies for their stuff, but not the brigands.....Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

Any number of reasons. Why do some people spend most of their time decoing houses, growing pixel plants, pretending to be pirates (weren't you in the dodgeball movie?, PvPing when you could join the Army and do it for real, spend all your time amassing items to sell for gold in game, etc.

This is one of the things that makes UO great. You can do so many things in this game to "play" it. Some I like, some I don't. Some I understand, some I don't. But however anyone plays, that is how they like to play, so more power to them. (not to include cheating, etc., no need to go there).

I think the brigands and gypsies are in cahoots. Yes, I said it!!!! There is cahooting going on.

How many times have I seen a gypsy camp right next to a brigand camp, with no problems, but i walk by and the brigands decide to attack me?!?

I believe the gypsies respond well to faction silver. You have to cross their palms with it.

I've taken up the gauntlet and ran around for a few hours picking locks and looting the contents of the gypsy camp chests...

Quick question: do large gem stacks spawn on the gypsies aswell if you kill them?..

Yes, I've recovered several large stacks of gems from corpses, I'm yet to find a large stack in a chest.

Yep, the gypsies are what gave me the large gem piles too.

I agree with the above suggestion that *chests* be improved in some way, too. Add to that making spawn barrels spawn again, etc.

But I gave up after a while too. The "rarity" of whatever is out there is more questionable than i'm prepared to spend looking for whatever it is. If it doesn't exist, im wasting my time. Ill wait until someone else finds something and then join the crowd trying to get one too.
