Help with Transfer Shield Strategy?

I'm sure i'm overthinking this, but I'm paralyzed I'm going to fudge this up and not maximize the use, and i've already lost all my transfer shields once so I feel like with the state of the game, etc...I'm probobly not going to have the opportunity to do this again years down the road.

The situation is I have 6 accounts with rewards available that I can choose Shields from.

Account 1: 8 Rewards
Account 2: 6 Rewards
Account 3: 6 Rewards
Account 4: 8 Rewards
Account 5: 5 Rewards
Account 6: 4 Rewards

I mainly play Atlantic, but have played(have characters) on most NA shards. Should I have each account have (2) ATL tokens?

Does it really matter? Do you find yourself running out of tokens?

I'm curious how you all do it when you have multiple accounts but not enough for all shields on every account.

Are you just transferring items and gold? Or are you trying to move around fully established characters between shards?

The example I would give from my own experience is that I only have one shard shield account amongst my double digit number of accounts... I use this account in two ways 1) to transfer gold or items between any shard I find the need to have to transact in , and 2) I will create all my established non-Atlantic characters (mostly mystic mages or throwers) using this account starting on Atlantic and then sending them over once nearly complete.

I have two Atlantic shields... and one for each other shard. Typically, when I do a transfer from ATL to another shard, i try to take a group of other transfer tokens to spread them out a little bit in the event that I want to do a multi-shard round trip before coming back to ATL.

I like to make a throw away character to do transfer trips to avoid bringing them back if I dont have the need. Just delete them when they are finished. I also spread around excess transfer tokens to other shards to avoid the need of sending a character somewhere and then returning.

Try and make it so you only need to send one way without the 24 hour wait between transfers on the same account.

I also have multiple duplicate transfer shields on other accounts to enable me to bring stuff back immediately after a transfer.

I've been working on 1 shard shield per shard, and I also have around 12 just for Atlantic. The odd time I pay for a transfer, I'll move tons of Atlantic shield tokens over. It makes it easy to move things back whenever I need.

I split the shards up between 2 accounts (sort of)
1st account has all shards accept the Asian shards and 3 Pac shields
2nd account has all Asian shards and also another Atl shield and 3 Pac shields

I use them to collect holiday tokens from all shards
I can collect holiday/ anny items from first shards (140 per shard) jump to second shards then home x 2 accounts at a time

I really only needed 2 home shards per account (pac)

Can you explain this more? For some reason i'm not figuring it out right now.

I think he means doing a return trip, if necessary, on a second account to avoid the 24-hour wait on same account.

if you can put transfer tokens on other shards, you can make a dummy character to send to your destination shard without first sending a character to pick something up. That drops the number of tokens you use. If you can, try and make a single, one way trip to get stuff to where you need it, then delete that character after unloading.

Here is my take based on my experience/game play (your style might vary):

No need to overthink it and I don't think it really matters; you can't really go wrong. The biggest thing is to make sure you have a "home" shard shield for each account in the event you are bouncing around developed chars. One of my accounts I have 2 "home" shields which was great at first for the amount of bouncing around I did, but now I have a bit of buyers remorse because years later I don't ever use the one shield.

Years later I have plenty of tokens accumulated for every shield I selected; when you first start it will feel like you don't have enough because it's only one a month but as time goes on they will pile up as you go through lulls in UO or just find yourself not transferring as much (for me this has been my UO life past few years; I play ATL during the ToT events and take a break when they aren't active). I currently have near max (10 tokens) on almost every shield AND a box full of 5+ tokens per shard (as they get to 10 I try to grab a token so I don't waste any...but I've gone months without doing it as well).

I have multiple accounts and I kind of do what Skett does; I have one account with probably half and another with the other half (granted I do NOT have all shards simply bc I don't see the need). I have 2-3 shards where I grabbed the same shard shield for both accounts so I am able to bring along my bard to help support my sampire/tamer account; this was 5-8 years ago though back when we didn't have as much best in slot type gear from all the ToT events. You could probably get away just one shield per account these days.

while i have 3-4 accounts i play there are only use 2 of them transferring stuff.

1st account does all NA and Europe shards.
2nd account does all Asian shards.

both accounts have double ATL shields and 1st account has double Sonoma (my home shard).
I use ATL as the gathering point for all my transfers as i have a house there.

over the years i found that there was a lot of time i was not doing transfers after the big rush of transfers was done. so i had accumulated a lot of tokens.
so i made up a bag that has a couple of each shards tokens and a bunch of ATL tokens, then send those out to all the shards on the respected account.

what i have now is the ability to go do a run with my transfer guy and just hit all the shards on his route one by one OR if it is something that i need to move ASAP i can create a character and send him as a Hot Shot one way transfer and delete him after he arrives.

it has worked out good for me over the years.

funny enough, all 3 of my kids have taken an interest in the game and all 3 started playing last summer. 90% of the transfers i do now are for them, im just a UPS service for them!
but i was finding i was running out of Origin tokens as they play on Origin, so i recently picked up a 2nd shield for there to help with the influx.

guy on Asian shard who is holding extra tokens in case i need to Hot Shot.
(did not use Asian transfers for a long while so had a massive infux of tokens)

oh ya, best nugget of knowledge i can give anyone in regards to shard shields.

on day 1 collect 1 of each shard token and put it in a bag and put that bag in your transfer guys bank box (which should be empty except for that one bag to capitalize on moving capacity.
never touch that bag.
that is your emergency get out of trouble bag of tokens.
nothing is worse than planning out a bunch of jumps and then finding you messed up and getting stuck somewhere with no way home.
that bag of tokens has bailed me out of trouble a couple times over the years.
always keep it stocked up and never take it out of the bank.

since you have 6-8 picks per account what you might want to do is divide and conquer.
maybe do NA east coast on one account, NA west coast on another.
the 3 European shard on another.
then divide the Asian shards in Korean and non Korean?
that would then allow you to shard transfer 4 times faster than a fella like me who just uses 1 or 2 accounts.
