Help! Traditional Keep outside walls decorating

So I buy this Traditional Keep. I want to place some banners and such on the front of the outside walls. The game tells me this must be placed next to a wall. It seems okay with my clicking on the steps but it doesn't see the outside wall as a wall. I know your a clever bunch out there. Any ideas?

I got YOU! I GOT YOU you son of an Orc captain! lol So satisfying when it all comes together. So I made a stone floor tile. I wanna say I locked it down on the steps but you have to double click that stuff . Now it will take a banner and no more must be next to a wall message. I'm sure it will let me raise it but was so excited I haven't tried that yet

mighta been able to do the same with an ingot, been a while since I deco'd anything - and go above the banner to raise it - now, is a Traditional Keep one of the contest designs?
