Have they changed Trapped boxes?

Trying to make some trapped boxes. Using the small crate. Tinkering is 30.6.
When I fail to create the trap it hits me for 75 to 95hps. And at 30.6 I fail about 95% of the time. Is that normal?

Orient it N-S when set up a trap, orient it W-E when use the box.
Make sure that the box is exceptionally crafted (so it is lockable).

P.S. I believe they changed trapped boxes. Now when I use magically locked box it doesn't damage me. As a result I should use unlocked box (do opening it and taking some place on my screen) and it also opens and damage me when I log in (since it was opened when I have logged off).

You were correct on the orientation. It now will try and trap, but it hits me for over 100 points (lucky he's 130hp's). Surely it can't be normal to hit for that much when creating it, can it?

It's oddly. I crafted few boxes about one weak ago. They do very little damage - usually under 10.

1. I crafted an exceptional small crate (my char has 30.1 carpentry to craft crates for training lockpicking, I think carpentry skill doesn't matter)
2. I set up a Dart trap (my char has 30.1 tinkering and wear a tinkering talisman)
3. I locked the crate with key to set up the trap
4. I unlocked the crate using a magery spell

I should have been more clear. It's when I fail to create the trap that it hits me for 75 to 95hps. And at 30.6 I fail about 95% of the time. Is that normal?

I have crafted another 3 boxes just to test it. I didn't take any damage on fails.

- I crafted crates with the same char
- I have crates in my backpack
- I have keys in my backpack (not in crates)

And I have exactly the same setup. My carpenter is also my tinker. Carpenter created the crates, and the same char is tinker making the traps. Are the CRATES also supposed to be made by a minimum Carpenter?

I can't answer anything other than saying gm carp has nothing to do with the damage...unless things have changed recently

I always did min skill tinker with a very high tinker tally. (if you can catch a heartwood scripter they toss some really nice tallies!!)

When you're on Siege (or Mugen), failure to place a trap will cause the tinker to take damage. So dress up your tinker in high phys armor and have another character handy for rezzes, if necessary.

I have a character on Siege whose only use (other than collecting gifts) is to make trapped boxes, because I really didn't feel like buying yet another soulstone for my main crafter character. She's got 30.0 tinkering and currently only has about 111 hit points with all her gear on (trying to get it higher but I just don't play her that often). I usually have her borrow the main crafter's tinkering talisman to make trapped boxes so there aren't quite so many failures. She rarely dies anymore from the failures once I monkeyed with her suit to push up her hit points. But it is indeed painful on Siege to make trapped boxes at low tinkering skill!

THIS ^^^^^^

that's exactly what's happening and glad to know it's not just something I'm missing. This IS on Siege, and now I know that I am doing things as I should. Now I can just go to work making more. My craftsman has like 125hps and is wearing an all 70's suit, and has 115 resist and STILL he gets hit for almost 100 points from time to time... Thanks so much for your post, since I now can do something other than worry that it was something I was doing wrong. For that I am quite grateful....
