Has anyone written a UO based fantasy book?

I considered doing this a few years back, and then life got in the way. Now that I've been snooping around the forums again the thought came back to me.

Now I am wondering if anyone else has had the same thoughts and how far they took them. I know from my due diligence that there is a bunch of legal stuff that needs to be taken care of to get authorization to proceed with a project like this...I just want to know how tough the hoops are to get through.

FYI, if you haven't guessed already...the book's hero would most certainly be a thief. ...la

I've seen at least 1 Ultima novel in the bookstore before:

The closest I ever got to completing Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month) was a story about some of my UO characters. I never finished it though, and being a hastily written novel that was mostly churned out the last few days, it was pretty bad.

I expect actually publishing one would be just about impossible unless THEY approached YOU. Unfortunately, "they" are probably several different companies at this point with various rights to bits and pieces of the Ultima universe.

2 books reminded me of UO.
1) sorry cant remember the name of this fantasy series but in the first book the guy was on an island and had an invasion of greater liches come out of the ocean and attack.

2) Thomas covenant last series had an awesome 3-way pvp groups battle. it is epic.

EA, RG only retained the rights to LB. EA owns Ultima, for better or worse (generally, for worse)
