Just a heads up.. If you try and farm with it, on Siege everything goes to "Uses Remaining". So you may end up destroying it.

Can you hold it in hand and then use a diff tool in pack in order to gain benefit without actually "using" it?

If you want it to use (rather than as display) why not use butcher's war cleaver instead? It does pretty much the same, (just without the 10% bonus), and is much cheaper to replace.
