I'm thankful for haiku contests with Skylark, for how cool the Maginicia event is turning out to be, and most importantly . . . . .

I'm thankful that Siege brings together such a cool group of people, good people, bad people, cool people, hot people, even n00bs like Kelmo. I'm thankful to know you all.

Oh, and I'm also thankful for Turkey! turkey! TURKEY! TuRkEy!! AND <u>TURKEY!!!!!!!!eleven!!!!</u> (oh, and gravy too)

My shortest post ever

.. was actually on UO Hall once when, I typed angrily in caps, &amp; it simply read:

"NC"

Now I got a 23 pound bird to cook today. Hubby normally buys us a 10 - 12 pound turkey since it is just the two of us and a friend of his over here normally for Thanksgiving.

But he said the puny birdies just had no breast meat this year...

&amp; he likes his turkey white meat. So ima stuck to cook a giant turkey this year, 23 fricken pounder.

If I dont start cooking it soon though, we will be eating at midnight. He does make fantastic turkey gravy to die for though, yummmmmmmmmm.

It will be a grand day though with the Packers playing football today and Thanksgiving dinner.

And for QZ's edification, I do believe in giblet gravy, but a simple pan-gravy made with heavy cream and the drippings from the turkey is my personal fave. Quick, easy, and DAMN TASTY. (I also liked that while my sister-in-law does the turkey when I looked at all the tasty pan-drippings this year and asked "Do you have cream and some corn-starch to make a slurry with?", literally three minutes before the food was to be served, she just aimed me in the right direction and stepped away from the pan. She had been planning on jar-gravy, which just plain doesn't taste the same, and I'm a damned-fine cook too.)

Oh man, my husband is the king of gravy making, especially the Thanksgiving turkey gravy. He does same no giblets in his, pan dripping, water magic and some flour or cornstarch.

And my sweet potatos, which I do just special for Thanksgiving...to die for. I make em with molasses, brown sugar, and of course the Jack Daniels for an awesome tasteful JackDaniels glaze on em.

AND the Packers WON ! We had a great day, he and I although neither he nor I had any room for the pecan pie, the apple pie, the pumpkin pie nor his birthday cake I made for the day no room for any of it, after dinner...we will get to those over the weekend.

I do Thanksgiiving with a huge Irish clan as well. We had 22 folks over at my sister-in-law's, and that's just a tiny part of the family.

It's definitely about the family for me.

And I'm a wee bit drunk too.

STUFFING is what you stuff in a turkey. DRESSING is what you put on a salad- you know, ranch, italian, bleu cheese.

Btw, idk how many others do this.... But when heating leftovers up, try the oven...turkey with gravy on top, mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, etc....it all tastes much better when reheating in the oven than the microwave.

I can't believe you guys are making me hungry after our great feast!!! I refuse to be a pig again until our Christmas Day Brunch done the Southern way with mimosas to celebrate..

One of the great things about playing with people from around the world is exchanging recipies and drinks.. and music... I've found a Belgian friend (Wim)that is introducing me to his country's dishes and soon I'll be trying them out in my new kitchen in Alabama... for real Alabama... not the new evil Jax's place.... Over here in Mississippi, being the Magnolia state, their centerpieces for Christmas are oft the magnolia blossom with it's huge white flower and deep green leaves and red bows or red holly berry sprigs added into the centerpiece.

Course this time of year the magnolia blossoms are long gone but they order in fresh or use silk ones..same effect lovely centerpieces...also utilising the magnolia trees sort of pine cone nuts core after the blossoms long gone that center sports red nut like seeds that the birds eat all winter long...is oft used as *pine cones* in centerpieces here locally.

I don't do that *not southern* I always deco with yankee stuff, pines and Poinsettias, or things the kids made when they were preschoolers that still exist after all this time for a tree done up nostalgic sentimental in *preschool elementary the kids' made these ages ago kinda crafts*. Although one year we did our christmas tree with hanging southern spanish moss, as garland, only found way down by central Miss ie Jackson Miss. area on trees there, it was quite lovely.

Being from Mississippi is why I chose the name "Magnolia" ... It is an amazing tree... Those trees that date back over 100 years form a concealed opening underneath its branches like a tent infolded in beautiful big glossy leaves and large exotic white flower when in season... There is such peace beneath them...

Everyone anywhere can enjoy a touch of the South with the breakfast/brunch drink Mimosa.. simple and delicious and good for you too.
