Does anyone know of the origin of this spell (and in particular the word itself). By way of explanation, my wife is expecting and we are looking for a name. I was training spellweaving by casting wildfire and the wife liked the word. Google didn't afford too much info so if anyone knows...

Not sure why anyone would want to name their kid after a spell.

Neither does my son Corp Por.

Very Funny :)

I take it that it has no meaning outside of Dungeons and Dragons?

'Cause he leaves home and returns, I call him An Corp. <shrug>

And no, I see nothing other than D&D references that are of any worth.

"Pat" would likely be better. It is as gender neutral as Haelyn is. And less likely to mis-pronunciation/mis-spelling.

YOU ascribe the connotations as to why you name your child anything.
THEY grow up and define their name through their actions/life.

also attend the intended Use of the name ... is it a first or middle(or other) Primarily for family use, or the normal "name" for society to call them?
Either way ... what are the likely "corruptions" that may occur, especially in conjunction with "its" surname?
Haelyn appears to be fairly "neutral" as far as nicknames likely to acquire.
Then again, I have No "pronunciation" to "be sure by" ...are you pronouncing it Hailing?

*shrugs*

they got my name from the internet ...

There is an Electronica / Industrial Metal Band out of Italy called Helalyn Flowers.

The band describes their name as meaning '...the miracle of life emerging from a sterile, cold and arid dimension.'

However I could not find anything to back that up. I advise a bit more research.

You might also invent it as a combination of the names Hayley and Lynn. (Haelyn.)

Hayley.

Hayley (pronounced /ˈheɪli/) is a given name. It was adopted from the English surname, which is based on a place name derived from Old English heg "hay" and leah "wood, clearing",[1] but many sources accept that it was also separately derived from the Old Norse word haela meaning "hero".

Lynn.

A locational surname from any of a number of places in England, the place name in turn derived from old Celtic lenna (meaning pool or lake).

Had to go find them once I saw this post.

Given how close Helayn is to hellion, you might want to avoid tempting fate and naming them this.

Perhaps GrimmOmen?

I bought the Birthright campaign setting and most of the stuff that went with it when I graduated from high school back in 95. It sure brought back some memories when I first saw that spell cast in UO.
