Greater Dragon Training

While doing a circuit of Melissa battles, I noticed some Greater Dragons with killer skills such as 128 wrestling and tactics. How is this achieved? What are the best things to fight to get skills that high?

Not all greater dragons can go that high. It all depends on how high the skills are before you tame them...

Perhaps some better tamer can give a more detailed explaination...

This is some evidence to consider involving 3 dragons. two were tamed the first few days they were out (while they still said 'dragon'. One was 4 total points off all max resists, had starting wrestle and tactics high 130s, ended training 123.1/122.8 wrestle/tactics. (lost this one to beserker bug in new jhelom where it suddenly went wild and died. This was a very upsetting occurence) second one was hovering over 140 wrestle, (can't recall the tactics) and ended max wrestle at 129.5. After I lost my nearly max resist dragon in NJ, we replaced it with one that started with better fighting skills than the one I lost and close to the 129.5 wrestle one's starting, and it maxed out at 118.8/118.3, considerably less than the one I had lost who started with worse skills.

only bringing this up because I have heard the chatter that somewhere toward the beginning of greater dragons being available, there was an altering of what they would lose/train back to, and that doubly irritates me with the buggy losing of my original dragon to a beserker 'unbonding it' and I have heard gossip about the strangers 'unbonding' of dragons as well being part of an attempt to weed out the original set of dragons. That is all conjecture, but still, I have wondered a long time how one dragon no more than one or two points different from another at starting wrestle could end up at 129.5 while the other stops at 118.7. same taming method. same tamer. Only variable was one was very early on with greaters, the other was after they had been around a while.

hmm, that is an interesting point. My first GD was before that new titling. It was gaining in magery well above what it had after taming (this is the one skill said to be untrainable after taming). This dragon was lost to some bug. I logged out with it one night, and when I logged in the next day it was gone ....

you can easy tell wich cap the GD will have after taming.
you only have to calculating like this:

Skill before taming for example 138,8 you erase the number after the comma.
so now you set a new comma like this 13,8 and now you subtract the new number from the original skill

138,8
- 13,8

result is your cap in that case its 125,0. :danceb:

Two things:

The cap stats: 90% of the pre tame value is what the new cap is. I look for pre-tame stats of 133.3 minimum so that the GD will have 120 in the stat. If you fail to record the pre-tame stat, you can figure the what that was if you look at the stat before you kill something else. Take the number and divide by .72, and that will give you the pre-tame stat. Take 90% of that and you will get your new cap. Magery cannot (shouldn't) be able to increase over the cap after tamed...it is fixed--90% of pre-tame. (We'll get yelled at and have people saying that there are multiple threads about this--and there are--but sometimes that's a lot of digging--and a lot of pointless banter--to get there and find what you're looking for)

How to get there (the high skill): I kill sphinx for the wresting, tactics, and resist gains until it is bonded. Then, I kill other greater dragons in destard. Balrons (esp. paragons) help a lot too.

--My dragon is pre-title change and the magery was fixed at 124.1 and never gone above that

Good Luck

Don't you know better than to take a Dragon to Jersey?

What were you thinking?

I bet you went to Little Italy too. Don't you know what they do to Dragons in Little Italy? :lick:

Dragons train up to 90% of pretame skill for wrestle, tactics and resisting spells. Magery should start off at it's cap and all the rest will train up to GM. If you forget to write down the pretame skills, you can also figure out what they will be by checking the skill immediately after taming, before they have done any training. Simply divide the skill by 0.8.

Training for me is simply a matter of digging up a shadow elmental, setting the dragon on it, discording the dragon. Then you can either discord the elemental or not, you want to keep the elemental's tactics within 20 of the dragon's tactics. Then it is just a matter of keeping the dragon healed.

Have someone cast clumsy, weaken and feeblemind on her over and over again to train resisting spells. I have a G15 keyboard that allows me to legally loop macros, so I just set up a UOA macro for that and loop it with a character that has lots of med and mana regen (as well as 2/6 casting).

Depending on the skill caps for the dragon it should take between 12 and 24 hours of training to fully train the dragon. For dragons with a very high wrestling cap, 120+, you may find you will have to finish training on the sphynx. I found my 124 wrestling dragon stopped gaining wrestle on shadow elementals around 118 (think that was the number).

As for dragons that don't fit into the 90% pretame skill cap rule, I've never seen it, although I've heard more than one person talk about funkiness with dragon skill and stat caps. I've heard of dragons that either didn't train up to 125 dex, or trained over 125, which also shouldn't be possible... ;)

Whatever the dragon's skills are, above 100, when fresh tamed become the skill cap. Any time skills are lost through deaths the dragon can be re-trained back up to that cap.
Obviously any skills below 100 can be trained up to 100

If i got a dragon with 130 wrestle, and it died 100 times and dropped the skill down to 120, can i train it back up all the way to 130?

OR You can just use Pinco`s and the EC and forget basic math!
