Got to Laugh: ATLANTIC FISHING EVENT

Soo...

First off the event was fine.
Simple and fun.

I soulstone macing and grab fishing on my mage.

I fish.

Event Water Ele comes... I kill it. EM appears and tells me to loot it, cause I figured its just an ele and dont open the corpse.

I find a cool deep blue fishing rod that says Atlantic Fishing Event....

My first event item. I fish with it for 40 minutes and pull up a serpant. The rod goes to my pack and vanishes when I cast ebolt. My sigil rod is there. The event rod is gone.

Gone. GONE I TELL YOU. I did all the stuff to check for it.

I actually start laughing because I got mad for a second. The first that enters my mind is the kidnapped victim that just surfaced after 18 years of being abused. Sort of put things in perspective.

Then I look down and see 148 stone fish. I figure I might win.

Well I got beat with 158 stone fish from Tom Davis. Congrats. I lost my EM fishing rod.

But I did have fun.

I wonder if there is fishing rod bug. I did get 2 pearls in 2 hours of fishing though.

Never heard of that kind of bug before...

Was your pack full at the time? It might have tried to go to your pack when you cast but fell to the ground because it was full, at which point someone might have quickly grabbed it.

For the EMs, please put spell channeling on fishing poles if you make them for this exact reason.

I was alone in my boat. I checked everything on ground, serpant, ocean, bags in bags, bank box, logged in and out. Simply gone. Very odd. But thats the way it goes.

Did you recall onto the boat? Or unlock the plank and open it, get on, and close and lock it? If it was the latter, its entirely possible for someone to hitch a ride. Ditto for if the plank was down with you on it to fish or kill serpents.

The only thing I can think off is this.

Cast fishing rod. Get serpant.
Cast fishing rod again cause serpants are easy.
As that cast is in the water.
I cast ebolt.
That was about the time the 148 stone fish fell to my feet.
And probably was off that fishing cast, where I then casted eblot.

So those things happened at once. But Im not 100% sure.

Maybe dropping the rod off the ebolt cast occured when I hooked the 148 stone fish and thats the glitch. I dont think I could reproduce that...HEHEHE.

Im just out of luck. Thats alway my luck on rare loot drops and event stuff.

What can I do?

A few years ago I lost a couple of fishing rods due to parrying with them. I thought it had been changed (I haven't lost one in a long, long time now) but once upon a time since they were in the shield slot, they could still be assigned wear-and-tear damage and be destroyed.

Did you recall onto the boat? Or unlock the plank and open it, get on, and close and lock it? If it was the latter, its entirely possible for someone to hitch a ride. Ditto for if the plank was down with you on it to fish or kill serpents.

Recalled on middle of ocean new boat. Locked.

Ouch.. you might want to try talking to the EM about it if that was the case, especially since they specifically appeared to tell you to grab it (meaning they know that character got one).

Maybe putting self repair on event poles would be advisible as well...

I told him I lost it but didnt ask for another. I figure if I was in his place, it be hard to know if someone was scamming. And before you know it every EM item would be mysteriously vanishing.

But it does sound like a little possible wrestling glitch who knows.

I suppose I could go a tear about how Im going to quit but that be silly. There were enough rods that they shouldnt be to pricey. Ill just by one if it strikes me.

I did grab a 148 stone fish though. 11 more stones and it would be hanging in the REWARD HALL forever. Just missed.

if you see the EMs, mention making the poles exceptional...those will not break under the strain of *physical* activity.

Reminds me of the time I was fishing in real life. I had just gotten a fishing pole for my birthday and was very excited. Then later in the day I cast out and half the pole (it was a two-piece rod) went fyling, snapped the line, and sunk about 50 or 60 feet out. I was like "Noooo!"

Wow - kewl EM popped up & gave you heads up to loot corpse -- I do anyway-- but I remember you if recalling right .. JR .. you DID have the biggest catch there for a while - sah-la-vive - ( & yeah it is difficult for EM to really know if you'd 'lost' rod er what) I was swapping back and forth between prize rod and crafted one but --- during shooting arrows at a tag team of sea serpents I received a message I'd pulled up a soggy parchment but it didn't end up on me, the boat or the beasts (not overweight and all locked up) - may have been a few pirate bugs going on there -- hoping for more fishing tourneys in future -
Perhaps this dialogue/thread may address such mishaps in future.

Had this happen to me the other day. I'd gone to test a fishing macro on the shore outside my house, a headless one came up and busted my 10yo newbied fishing pole. I felt a sentimental pang when I realised what had happened. I guess I'll switch to a spell channeling one now.

Im sure it was a wrestling thing. It busted. It all makes sad sense now. Next time i fish center of boat and not edge where I can wrestle.

I kept the 2nd place fish but want another rod. I cant find one to buy. So if anyone knows of one, please let me know. I guess its against TOS for the EM to make me another one and let my donate gold the EM fund. (hehe)

Man I missed this event and I've being fishing alot lately. I always miss EM events. I need like a com crystal to keep with me so when they announce it I can hear it.

Fishing poles can break from time to time from just fishing. I used to fish A LOT a couple months ago. And I broke at least two just from fishing. Can't remember the message I would get when one broke though.

Ok. Here is my fishing story. I go register 6: 15. Then get on boat fish for hour.

I recall to bank less than five minutes give a guildie an lrc piece and bank some leathers. Sacred Journey back to boat. I fish some more. 8 15 I dock boat and head to turn in my big fish of 90 stones. EM says why werent you fishing? You were in Yew. I said went to bank less than five minutes but that I fished. I offered him shoes, sandals, or named fish. I guess event was so complicated he couldnt check more than once. Maybe there was a huge turnout and he was pressed for time. I dont know but I wont get excited for an event again. I got 3 big fish, 1 pearl, lots of footwear, and a huge disappointment.

I do not think that I will get excited about an EM even againt. If you get excited and you look forward to something that just sets you up for disappointment. I m tired with hugely disappointing events. So I will take the EM site off my favorites list and not check it anymore.

This is a fact. I lost a pole in just this fashion. Fighting with a pole in hand can definitely destroy the fishing pole, in my experience, anyway.
