if they are different passwords, I'd imagine you're safe. but just to be 100% I'd make damn sure you're not infected, then change ALL your passwords. better safe than sorry

if ya got the warning from your malware/antivirus, you should be ok. but like he says, don't log on, update the planet and do a full scan of your drive including hidden folders and all that. GL

One of your best options for doing the scan is AVG's Boot Disc with malware scanner. The boot disc allows you to update the malware scanner and all definitions before you scan your volumes. It finds a ton of stuff.

AVG Rescue Disc:

There are a bunch of other boot disc scan options, this is just one and they all work well, but I can vouch for this one as very good.

I've got an email from Stratics, 'Stratics Newsletter April 2010', but I didn't get any warning in my browser.

I'm using Windows XP, Firefox, Avast and Windows Defender .. should I be worried?

The newsletter is legit, it's a new initiative from our new General Manager.
I'm not sure what warning you're getting?

I'm thinking false positive, which happens a lot of times. I use FF and IE and Norton, AVG and computer Associates for AV, MalWareBytes, AdAware, Spybot and and others for malware and stuff. absolutely no fluffs of any nature from any of them.

I received an email, too. I don't know how you got the email address it was sent to though, unless I used that email back before the great Stratics crash. I don't see an email address listed anywhere for me. I deleted the email I entered when I signed up for this particular account. If you find any address in your records for BlissMarie or Bliss Marie, would you delete them, please? I don't want an email on file here.

Also - Why would your new General Manager send an email out that has an attachment with it? At the very least it seems to me he should have made a post saying he was trying something new and that we should be on the lookout for an email from Stratics. Better yet, he could have asked you to post it, since you are well known on the site.

Maybe I am overly suspicious, but I won't be reading the mail that arrived.

I never got an attachment with mine, Are you sure it wasn't just asking you to download the images?

Oh and I think you need atleast one email address assigned to your account, Like almost all forums.

It shows in the mailbox as an attachment. I don't know if it was for images or not.

Usually when I have images in my email, such as HTML email from online stores, they show up automatically.

Perhaps I do need at least one email address assigned to my account. I dug around and see there is an address for this stratics account, but it is one I had long since forgotten about. So, where did the email address my stratics mail came to come from? If it came from my original account, before the crash, I guess I need to get my accounts combined, so I can delete that email?

Email is legit, was a quick virus scare yesterday, which we were all over inside of 15 minutes - looks like someone posted a few nasty links is all.

again, the email is just an informative way for you to get caught up on some recent strat-happenings.

Mystery solved. I found imported_blissmarie. Even though I can't post on that account, I was able to change the email address. Thanks for your interest, Mapper.

Probably not but I will say that Windows Defender has been replaced by Microsoft Security Essentials. If you can, I would go to a legit Microsoft web site and download the new Microsoft security software.

Maybe try a boot disc with virus scan ability. Couldn't hurt.:)

I just clicked my bookmark to visit the uo forums and it loaded a stratics page with background, but an window that told me my forum password was 720 days old and asked me to change it. After following the instructions it took me to the UO Forums main list.

After telling a friend he directed me to this thread.

Is this a legitimate request by stratics or was it some kind of philshing of the stratics site for account names and passwords?
