How good of a gold sink would that be?

I've posted this years ago.

It should be done like the magencia plots. Everything goes into a series of storage boxes.

You got to the house sign and for 48 hours you can view the contents of the boxes and then place your 'bid' on the house sign.

If you win you own the plot and the house for 7 days afterwards it will drop if you do not claim the plot as your own.

This would be HUGE in terms of taking gold out of the economy and as it is the goods are just redistributed now that causes more inflation.

They can't even make the houses that should fall decay (which directly effects UOs income), make stew from an add on disappear with the house (I wonder how many GM pages this takes up since stew blocks placement), or only a few of the add ons redeed (kiss those guild stones and mini houses goodbye) and you want them to create a whole new very complicated system like this?

Not to mention a lot of people will be put off because they like to hunt IDOCs. Pvpers in this game fight over spawns, at a moongate, annnnd you guessed it IDOCs. Taking the things people actually do in this game away seems like a bad idea.

Sounds like a good idea, but only if:
- Every time a pvper dies, all of their armor goes into the same auction
- Every time a critter dies, it's loot goes into the same auction
- Every time a bod is redeemed, the reward goes into the same auction
- Every time a house is customized, everything in that house goes into the same auction
- Every time anything is released from lockdown, removed from a paperdoll, or placed into a backpack or bank, it also goes into that same auction
- And every time somebody wins an auction, the item they won is first placed into a new auction, to confirm that they are indeed worthy of owning it, by being able to win it again

IDOCs are a play-style. If you don't like them, don't participate in them. It's as simple as that. There are aspects of the game I don't wish to participate in, for one reason or another, but I don't ask for them to be changed so that others can't enjoy them. And this doesn't mean that if a duper is caught, their items shouldn't be deleted; I don't have any problem with that. But if a normal player just stops playing and lets their house decay, why shouldn't IDOCers be able to continue with their chosen play-style and enjoy this game the way they want to enjoy this game?

I really don't get why some players have such a hatred of IDOCs. IDOCs are like Easter Egg hunts you can do whenever you want. The houses are the eggs, you run around looking for them, and the loot is the prize inside the egg. Who hates Easter Egg hunts, seriously?

Idocing is awesome!!! ive hung my idoc boots up for a while but let me tell u it made me a vast UO mint!! easily one of the best ways to make money,collect rares, place keeps and castles!!!! and have soooooooooo much fun doing it!!!

It's horrible. Only the rich could afford to win it and then get more rich by selling the contents.
I'm sure it sounded awesome in your head but maybe you didn't consider the fact that some people have idocing as their play style, not just a thing they do on a whim occasionally but something they are actively doing as soon as they log in.

Well, the idea sounds fine... except as others have pointed out, IDOCing is an activity that many enjoy. If these properties were auctioned, then only the rich and lazy would profit.

There's a lot of work and patience involved in finding these properties... so IMHO, anyone who makes a living doing this deserves whatever profit they can take.

Could always make the auction exactly like the lotto system...


About idocing... after watching how idocing is done on 9 shards it is obvious most of the veterans that do it in Felucca use:
- rail script with a stealther where they add a secundary script to mark runes at decaying houses... many times not even attending.
- then secure the location with their red crews while revealing stealthers.


Auction/Lotto randomness versus winning by scripts/cheating...


Ultimately your choice...

So you are the all seeing eye of Sauron and can spot invisible people stealthing around on rails? Sure a lot of people script in many aspects of this game, not everyone though. Considering the number of IDOCs I've done over the years that I had all to myself these hordes of sneaky scripters aren't doing a very good job. Go after scripting if that's your beef, not IDOCing.

Nothing wrong with people bringing red friends to fight over IDOCs imo. It IS Felucca. Even then you can loot a great deal if you're decent at playing your stealther. You could also try making friends like oh making a guild, using pvp characters instead of cowards, and fighting against the reds. Hey you can even do that without ruining a part of the game for a lot of people!
