Give new players a check for 1 million gold

The idea is not too bad, although a new player would not have an idea about the value of a million and therefore easy to scam, while experienced players would abuse this.
Make it a bit different - either only to the very first char on an account gets the total amount or split the sum through 30 and give the first char who logs on per day on that account this split sum (or maybe 50k to have a nice round sum) into the bank.

New Players should be given nothing, no money, no items, and be placed in a random mainland town. New Haven should be leveled.
You're kidding right? If you are serious about this then it's clear you haven't visited a mainland town in the past year. They're all dead. Great, having new players running around lost in Britain having no clue other players exist in the game.
Good point. I've always been bitter though that the new player area is not Britain. That's where I thought it was when I started and it kept me active for a few weeks (but it was very busy then!). First I discovered the Sewers... I thought it was a newb dungeon, so I worked my way with torch in hand all the way to the end to the lost lands. I was kind of disappointed there were no other levels or things to do there. The Graveyard was too hard and it was a while before I found Yew graveyard. I always wondered why the devs didn't develop the sewers better. It seems like such a meaningful area.

I think it would have been cool for the cities to focus on different skills, like Trinsic would be the place to train and learn Chivalry. But, as you brought up, there are not enough players to spread the new ones out to different areas.

LOL, we aslo got a newbie item ticket. I used mine to get some ranger armor...but then got scammed into selling those gloves for 500 gold within 10 minutes of logging in for the first time...ROFL...la

Even trolling needs to start with a nugget of a real issue if it's going to be effective - all you have to do is start with a little laugh at it and it can be good starting points for serious discussion :)
Ok so here's my start on this issue...

Having a million dollar check is outrageous. Log in. place a house. lrc suit. and thats it?

I remember when I first started playing and wanting a house really bad and it gave me something to work towards. I started as a paladin killing skeletons and zombies outside of Haven and then found Despise. Now AOS just came out, so there were literally 10 ppl in there at any given time and so many ppl down killing ogre lords that ppl were on the island taking turns.

Shortly after getting a rather small house, I found the arctic ogre lords and soon realized t hat my full dull copper armor wasn't enough for these beasts as I started to realize that I needed something a bit more, so after some looking, I found out I needed a bronze suit.... something that was effective of not only physical attacks, but cold as well.

So into Ice dungeon I went taking turns killing arctic ogre lords. I did this for a long time until I found a scimitar with 100% fire dmg ogre slayer. I fell in love with it, saved up money to buy it (probably way too much at 200k) and started making alot of money with it over time.

After a bit, I got tired of taking turns, so I got up the nerve and ventured into felucca to hoard them all to myself. I would go in and hopefully get enough money to cover my insurance and my bag of sending in case FL (the dominant red guild on pac at the time) found me.

After a year or so of me playing, I started talking to these FL members and they told me that they preferred mages, so I built one, learned to play it fairly well and then beat ImReD both times and was accepted into the guild.

After years of being in FL, I worked to become a member of the dark counsel and then finally became the gm for a short period of time. After that, I went back to college and that is what I'm doing atm. Be done in May, but back to my original point. Playing this game, learning this game, and working for everything that I have was what makes it fun. It's no different then those rich kids that get everything handed to them. Unless you work for something and reap the benefits from it, you won't fully appreciate it. How could you?

I'm on the side of the fence that remembers UO is an Adventure Game. Where is the adventure when you start out with 1 million gold? I say you start the game with only the clothes on your back an a few gold in your pocket - nothing else.
This would be great, if UO were the best choice for MMO on the market and we could be picky about who joined.

UO is a dying game. I'm surprised people haven't adjusted their perspective on that.
