Getting people back to the old dungeons

I think there should be a new set of Artifacts that drop into players pack from fighting in the old dungeons. If there is one thing that attracts players, its new pixels. None of the items have to be groundbreaking but I think some relatively rare housing deco would be nice.

Also maybe 5min SoAs and .1 or .2 SoTs, +5 stat scrolls etc

It's amazing how many times we see the same post over and over but nothing ever seems to change. Sometimes, I wonder if i'll be dead before they actually do anything. I understand things take time, like the Magnicia but it seemed like 3 years and it's still not done.

They should put a time stamp on these suggestions just to see how long it takes but anyhow, I don't think anything will bring people back to the dungeons unless they make everything alittle more difficult and alittle more exciting. In the lizardman area they could drop a suit, where if a new player was farming, they could earn a decent suit. This way people will go earn the stuff instead of go begging for it all the time.

Maybe, they could set up champ spawn systems, even if lizardmen worked as a champ spawn. It could slowly increase to a point where you would just see harder creatures with more hit points and better rewards but it could still be made challenging. Then, you could drop extra gold, special items off the bosses. This would also stop people from farming because the system would always increase to a point where you would either have to slow down or fight the boss.

I don't think items would bring people back to the dungeon alone, when you can just buy them.

True, but most of my gold comes from hunting and getting the artifacts/resources that people don`t have time to or are to lazy to get them selves.

I think most of the items should be geared forwards newer players. But with some of the items/gear for the high end collector player. Remember back to ToK there were named sword displays that were seemingly rarer than the rest of and people were willing to pay 10x the normal value just so they could complete there collection.

Make it interesting, how about new suits that could be enhanceable. That might give imbued goods some competition.

I think the list of items should be very large say 100 or so, with about 10 that each have about 50 different variations. The newer players could not only be hunting for items for themselves, but at the same time have a chance for an item that they could sell to a high end player. This could have an effect on the "disparity of wealth" that seems to pop up on the forums once a month or so.

Items I would like to see:
1. Rare alcohal bottles
2 An Ethe that is only good for 200 hours playtime
3. New suits with pieces that are enhanceable

My suggestion you wouldn't have to change very much in the dungeons, just the potentia loot from the monsters.

Also, keep us in the dark, tell us there are new drops, how many new items there are, but don`t tell us what they are. Keep it exciting, I would be all over this.

And heres another idea, T-maps inside of Dungeons?

I spend time in the old dungeons. Powerscrolls are a big incentive.

Artifacts wont work as that was tried with those virtue artifact things that drop in your pack when you hunt in old dungeons. And any new artifact added will quickly lose appeal once enough gets over saturated. The devs who brought PVM to UO had it right with randam mod items. Hunt anywhere never know what you get almost never get the same thing and the rewards never get oversaturated or boring. It was a foever type system that would last as long as once something better gets introduce that they get bumped in intensity. Simple and fool proof. Sadly unless thats fix nothing will save pvm as they will always have to constantly provide something stronger and all previous dungeons monsters become obsolete. These days PVM is almost dead except for the newest addition. So unless there is dev interference to fix the random system it's over for anything old.

uhhh

there is a set of artifact drops (nice ones too) for the old dungeons...

what needs change is Tokuno. Treasures of Tokuno should never have been turned off, it should be permanent. That way, there's a reason to be in each facet.

Trammel: dungeon arties
Felucca: powerscrolls
Ilshenar: marties
Tokuno: tokuno arties/marties
Ter Mur/Abyss: ter mur arties
Malas: Doom arties

As it is, Tokuno is the only facet that there's really no reason to be in.

Its really too bad that we have players who have data readers enabled on every patch that search out all the new items stats and all then instantly post them on the boards.

We even had item descriptions for stuff that was never even implemented just posed in code as a possibility.

Random 1 in 2000 respawn chance for a light demon. And make it infested or paragon level with only an explosion at death.

Even good artifacts. With all the dungeons we have how long before oversaturation take place after every player farms them to death 3mo-5mo-10mo. Then the dev will have to come up with more and more and more till the end of UO. Any new expansions will make everything useless again. They need a self sufficient system with no carbon copy items which only means random mod items that are better and almost never the same as each other than anything that could be made. Self sufficient allowing to concentrate on the other aspects of the game, revives PVM every where outside SA and will only get stuck if there made useless.

Thats why I am wanting a large number of artifacts. I said 100 before, maybe 200 would be better. Not all of it has to be equipment, there could be other drops. I could have every current virtue artifact in a couple days of playing if I wanted to, thats what makes it worthless. What I am asking for would be enough that it would take a very long time to collect them all. In addition to having some drops that would be attractive to the newer player there should also be some high end stuff, several new suits(make them enhanceable ala runic tools, that should make it interesting) Also make some of it very rare, say 1 in 5000 drops would be a rather desirable item. That type of item is normally only affordable to the high end player, but now would be just as attainable a low end player or veteran alike. Stuff like that would help even out the balance of wealth.

Also 105 PS,+5 stat scrolls .1-.5 SoT, SoAs.

Better availability of the 105s and the +5s would make the better PS easier to acquire for the low end players.

An ethe that only lasts 200 playing hours, Awesome for a newer player.

Invulnerability potions, PVM only, duration:2 mins

Single items that had, say, 50 variations such as:
Liquor bottles, paintings, books( with new graphics),

There isnt alot of new players that can go out and get themselves a LT sash by soloing a champ, but this way a newer player could go out and while gaining skill, hunt earth elementals with skills in the 60s, and have a chance to make it big.

One thing I would like to see is an arti drop when the mods are set, but the intensity of the mods and resists are variable. And you can only get certain arti drops from certain dungeons.

eg. A1 - Drops from shame. Has HPI LMC and 3 resists on it.
A2 - Drops from Deceit. Has MR LRC StamInc Mage armor and 1 resist.

Also perhaps make the items repairable only a certain number of times (6 or so) to keep the artis in high need.

Flame away.

When new low end gear gets introduced, its properties are sometimes decent, but are missing things that make it a efficient weapon. The most glaring example is hit mana leach.

Katana(named of coarse)
1 in 5, random slayer
1 in 100 Hit fireball/HLD/HLA
HSL 15
hml 15
SSI 15
DI 20

Repeating xbow
1 in 5, random slayer
1 in 100 Hit fireball/HLD/HLA
HSL 15
hml 15
SSI 15
DI 20

None of these are really great weapons, but would be perfect for a NEW player. The average value of the bows I carry around are easily 5mil, way out of the range of a new player, this puts decent gear in the hands of new players

Now some items that would be great for a player in training
Repeating xbow
Lower ammo cost50
HSL 50
HML 25
HLL 25
SSI 60
Damage -50

Skinning Knife
HLL 50
DCI 20
hml 25
hsl 25
SSI 60
damage -50

I have mixed feelings about the first part of your post.

But the last part, yes, that should be a must in any new artifacts

One reason I posted this is ToK related. I had recently had come back when Samurai Empire had just been released. Not knowing anybody and not knowing what I could do I was contemplating leaving. When ToK started, the Tokuno islands were flooded, people everywhere. I had a great time, met some new ppl and joined a guild that I stayed a part of for a couple years, kept me in the game.
I went from hunting alone scraping along to doing Serado the Awakened champ with like 50 other people. I loved it

People leave because they say they are tired of the bugs and they just get board of doing the same thing. Stuff like this keeps the game exciting.

This would be a relatively easy addition to the game. The item drop mechanics are already in place.

Some good points all around. I think what would help get some folks back into dungeon diving the old stuff would be to either.

A) Rotate out the arties that drop already with something new. And add arties deco/arms/armor drops to places that don't currently have any.

or

B) Add a slight chance that the artie dropped would assume your name the first time you equip it. Example: King Tatwin's Berzerker Maul.

I spend plenty of time in Despise and in Shame. I've noticed I'm not alone either.

I often see others killing lizardmen in Despise or Elementals in Shame. Both places in my opinion are EXCELLENT for training up fighting skills.

Trouble with many of the other dungeons is.... they aren't. If I'm trying to gain fame for Compassion then it's off to kill things like the Succubus or Ice Fiends... I don't waste time on much else for that.

I only hunt Dragons when trying to tame a "super" Greater Dragon. But I almost never find anything worth taming.

Can't recall the last time I went to Despise. Wrong I used to go to all the time for some stuff but the spawn in most those dungeons is too slow... or Despise can be a HUGE pain with all the Liches. Kinda like deep inside Cove. Cove is only marginally decent for feathers... but Illshenar is FAR better with the Harpy nest there because the spawn is 10 times faster there. Swoop used to be at least good for feather gathering but since they made the drops stink and beefed it up to such ridiculous proportions very few bother with it anymore.

Tokuno has little use..... killing Shadow ele's for the crystals or training pets on them. Used to be I'd hunt the Oni to oblivion. But there aren't any special drops or anything from Tokuno so it's kinda a waste now. Oh there is one other use...... It has 2 spawns of Sucuubii for gaining fame.

Tokuno could use something new. I think we are all ToTed out. Though if they spawned that stuff all the time but at a reduced rate it would help new folk.

Tokuno needs something new though.

I see lots of good ideas here. Some, if not all, might need tweaking to get "right", but I hope the devs would look at this thread and pull out some ideas.

Don't break the dungeons please, if something is ever done for other shards do NOT push it to siege, they're still used here. ( I guess a crossshard way to ensure this, trammel only, leave the REAL dungeons alone!)

They're still used on other shards too. I've been fishing in Ice on Europa quite a bit lately, I almost always find there's someone killing the arctic ogre lords when I'm there.

As I have said repeatedly:
Im not asking for any of the spawn in the legacy dungeons to change, at all. Im not asking for a new dungeon or a change to the layout of any of the current ones. Whenever I train new characters I usually spend a good amount of time in them.

What I am asking for an update to a system that is already in place. The exact same system that drives the virtue artifact drops, but with several hundred new items. This would provide opportunities for new and old players alike.

How could this break dungeons? Please provide one possible scenario.

You obviously didn't try the quest turning in the complete set of virtue armor to get that book "that would be needed" in rebuilding Magincia, else you'd know that system doesn't work very well
