(Question) getting bored of Siege/UO....need ideas

I've noticed that lately when i log into UO i basicly sit in my house and watch general chat while doing something else, as I can't think of anything in the game I'd actually like to do.

I've done the spawns to death, and being as there's rarely anyone in our guild on I solo them all which is a bit boring in itself, but i've gotten to the point that, thanks to gear and stacking my stats way high I'm able to finish the spawns myself. (gotta love area damage slayer heavy crossbows). I'm not just talking baracoon either...i do rikktor, meph, and basicly all but oaks and semidar solo (i'm not a mage, cant polymorph, makes semidar wayyyy too hard). Did an oaks solo once though, not worth it, takes way, way too long.

I've explored all the facets top to bottom, know all the secret rooms, passphrases, and other cool stuff from back when the devs were actually still trying to make UO feel like a living world.

Doom, peerless, named monsters....done those all to death, even before I'd come to siege.

Dungeons....got them all memorized, but not much to do in them these days, massacring a house full of evil mages loses it's amusement very quickly.

Quests....boring from day 1, I never enjoyed them.

Treasure hunting....the level 7 maps made it interesting at first, having to come up with new tactics for the super hard dragons, but when it came down to it it wasn't notably different from l6's and again, got old fast.

SA/underworld mini-champs/bosses....easy and boring, same tactics as basicly all the new monsters, keep yourself healed and hammer them until they're dead, which takes forever thanks to 50k hp. (the worst being the rats, at 25k hp, high phys resist, and 60 freaking wrestle...you can literally go afk and kill that boss as at 120 skill he has no chance of hitting you)

PVP...been there, done that, it's boring fighting the same 2-3 people all the time, if you happen to be on the same time as them (otherwise everyone else runs). Actually pvp in general in uo has gone way downhill, it's nowhere near as fun as it used to be, was a lot more fun when everyone had 100 cap to each skill.

PKing...amusing, but people keep hunting the same things over and over....makes it boring on my end too. That and I HATE fighting someones dragon while they run off and hide, I was musing a while back that my new pvp/pk bow needs to have "dragon slayer" on it. (between the bane dragons and greater dragons, it would help me a lot...)

Thieving...same as PKing, i'm sick of silver, sots, and scrolls, sure i get something interesting now and then, but it's getting really hard to find anyone online with anything but bandages on them.

Decor...I have a castle and the pub which many people have told me they love the design of, but I just can't get into decor on siege anymore as it would never be seen by anyone.

It's just not the game I remember anymore, everything done in game feels like a grind now, it's almost at bad as playing world of warcraft (but not quite). I've even tried shard hopping lately, dusting off all my old characters and checking out old favorite areas on Origin (which, IMHO, is less populated than siege now, just you see people more as everyone is afk in luna, actually go out into the world and you never find anyone) and Atlantic (which made me turn general chat off and pop a few asprin after only 10 minutes of exposure, making a sweep of common areas showed me that unless I took to guild intrusion i'd have essentially no way to ever steal anything of value as a thief) but that bored me even more.

I feel the same. Thats why I emptied my castle and sold it. Now I just have a small place that I can quickly close if I need to.

To be fair, I don't see myself being here beyond Christmas (unless something crazy happens content wise but won't hold my breath).

I have SWTOR on pre-order. And when that comes out in December I'll be giving that a go.

I'll still check the forums here whilst playing that.

When I reach that point - there are usually 2 things that I do.

1.) Start fresh on a new shard - without any support or help. Starting out as a newbie with minimum skills/suit items and having to kill mobs for the items and even spells for the first spell books can be fun and brings back a lot of great memories.

2.) Mentor a new player (or returning veteran). This often lets me relive the fun through someone else's eyes while at the same time, helping train up more competition.

Haha now you see what i go through on a daily basis. My main is and always will be my crafter. My joy in the game was always running a vendor shop. With the lack of population thats even declined to me sitting in my shop hidden and watching general chat. I basicaly pay 15 dollars a month to visit a chat room with a game built around it. Everyday i make my rounds on the lack of vendors that are hardly ever stocked on siege. Occasionaly i find something for one of my collections. (darned horders) Right now im semi having fun trying to make a complete set of them new painted masks. But at 85 names per mask style thats alot of storage. Sure i have the room but whos ever going to look at them besides me?

When im bored lately i find myself drifting to unnamed versions of the game we love. I think ever since EA took over the game has been in a downward spiral. So know your not alone in this feeling. Ive actualy thought about taking up stealing/snooping just to do something new and different. It seems lately that the only ones truly taking amusment in the game are them thieves on the thief forumns lol.

Thieves always did have great advantage on siege till the numbers started to dwindle. So i get a kick outta the guild infiltration and sudo scams that they pull on prodo. Basicaly they are recreating the game to evolve for thier playstyle since EA basically took all the stealing outta the steal skill.

/ends rant as well

Raptor I know what your saying and most days I feel the same way. So I've been thinking of things to do I think, since my kids are done with there fall season of soccer (which means I don't have to coach anymore) that I would like to start setting up tournaments and shard wide hunts. I know this might not be what your looking for but it still might be fun todo I'll talk to the guild and see what would be good days to do these then I'll post here.

I am not playing as long as you , but i never run out of things to do. One of the best features of uo is that you can set the difficulty level by yourself.
Do not hunt for items, play what is fun for yourself. So many unusual templates are possible, so many things to do with them, you cannot have that in any other mmo.
Some ideas may be impossible to use on siege because they depend on certain items and it can get expensive then.
One of the most impressive chars i have ever seen was a tinker/bard on europa using crafted pets. Nearly naked. Against demon guards.
Slasher of veils on melee in cat form, killing a navrey as a squirrel, make your own epic fights.
You enjoy pk'ing, try to get kills on unusual templates. Bard or stealth / tinker comes to my mind.
Did never read about corgul solo. Or a public charibdys on siege.
There is a rp guild on europa called the guardsmen of yew. Only using gm made stuff, nothing magical. I still remember seeing them figthing against a paroxy and killing a yamandon or greater drag together with them using the same equipment.

What i want to say is, make your own challenges. Ignore the current grind events, i hate them also. Doesnt interest me if you pk me on your archer or the fact that you got a castle full of stuff.
But seeing someone using unusual tactics and templates somewhere makes me grin. Thats the stuff you cannot have in wow. Only in uo.

it's fun to fight in gm made equip, but unfortunately you need like 5-10 people at least to effectively do anything, and actually if you look a few months back I organzed (poorly i might add) a bunch of us to go dungeon crawling through the old dungeons in nothing but npc bought equip.

I was trying to do corgul solo but gave up on that, he just heals too damned fast, it's a boring fight too, he doesnt really do anything (you spend most of the time killing off those pesky undead pirates). I don't particularly enjoy fighting monsters anyways, especially not anything added post-ren as they have wayyyyy too much hp.

as for unusual tactics, i WAS out killing things on my tinker/aclehmist, but the tinker pets are nerfed so bad they die in 1-2 hits from the high end monsters and since they dont bond they cant be ressed, the alchemy worked out better but i need to carry at least 2 packies full of pots with me to have enough to kill anything stronger than an ogre lord. It was amusing at first but really just came down to standing a few tiles away holding my "lastobject/lasttarget" macro down after tossing the first pot, then waiting 20 minutes for the boss to finally die.

What would be awesome is another expansion like t2a (stygian abyss was OK here on siege, but didn't really add much). But what would REALLY cure my boredom would be EA starting to do the story arcs again (the epic ones with events all the time they used to do). Unlikely though, they don't even have useful GM support anymore....even though that was the reason why they told us the subscription was going from $9.99 a month to $12.99.

Same here.
I even wonder, if I will stick around UO, until Christmas comes around.

Lack of population, here too, has led to me taking all of my reg. carpentry vendors down and even some other ones were removed too. When even gate scrolls no longer sell HERE, time to hang it up, with scribey vendor too. Either we now have more crafters than folks needing us, or no one is buying much cuz no one much is here anymore, cept folks that craft their own all the time, esp carpentery. I loved doing that here. :( About all I left up with anything on it are the *halloween gargy banner* vendor & my fishin pole vendor, in case anyone here wants or needs my gm carp'd frostwood fishin poles. Bout it.

Only thing I been even bothering doing in UO is fishin' and that is on Chesapeake, cuz my 1 fish quest fishes vendor, over there, is like up to a zillion gp earned on it. So I fish just to fish & to restock that lone vendor. It keeps me busy fishin and restockin it, in UO yet, something to DO, for the time being.

Someone musta liked that vendor, cuz they stuck it on some where to shop UO shops forum, somewhere, tellin folks where to fetch *reasonably* priced fish quest fishes on Chesapeake.

But yeh, don't see me going past the end of the year in UO either. :(
Just waiting for my 14th * UO vet birthday rewards* on my 2 oldest accts. of my 4 active accts. They are due up to be 14 yrs. in late Oct., bout it !
And the new messed up acct. management system, still quirky not working right all the time yet, I feel has not helped UO population on all shards, one bit, yet.

the draw to minecraft is the complete customablility. A similar game with better graphics is Wurm. You can build houses and castles with peices of wood any shape you want....reshape rivers and dig mines wherever you want...then the bad guys can seige it and get your stuff. Its really cool but last I played the combat animations still sucked. Its completely indie created so progress is not fast.

Personally, I am waiting for Skyrim, but wondering about the SW game.

Can't wait for Skyrim next month. I've enjoyed the Elder Scrolls / Fallout series so much and just want more.

Plus the dragon slaying part and taking power from them is just awesome. Kinda like Elder Scrolls meets Highlander lol.

I've come to enjoy donating/teaching new players about Siege... Showing them which gear is desirable, how to build a template/suit for casual play, hardcore gamer play, etc etc. I genuinely enjoy acquiring things that are relatively high end(I made a composite bow with like.. 35SSI 43DI 50 lightning 44 HLD 44 ML) but too low for me, and suiting a new player up. When I started on Siege long long ago I was bare assed and it was hard... but now if you're a 50/50 newbie, you can't even take down an orc with just GM gear. They'll hit you for 20 damage every time. So I enjoy going through my hundreds of pieces of armor, giving them a blessable weap, a slap on the ass and telling em to go get em. I offer template help, show them how to do spawns, etc. I've acquired enough wealth that sharing it is more fun than trying to find items to spend it on... unless someone has a parax swampy ;)
