Get rid of "starter" town options

I think this was a bad idea after-all, many wanted to be able to choose which town to start in "like back in the day." problem is this game has been spread too thin and by starting every character in New Haven you gave guilds a chance to recruit.. New Haven had essentially become a just that, a haven for guilds and guild recruitment since that is where all new characters started. New Haven is now a ghost town most of the time as where before the change was made, it was very populated.. By giving people the option of choosing a starter town, you spread the base thin and guilds now no longer go there to look for new members.. New Haven was a great, reliable city before the change was made, you could go there and find all kinds of people training up new characters and most of them would be willing to join your guild..

I think a better solution would be for people to not pray on new players to join their guilds :p

But in all honesty, the game needs a longer tutorial, something that takes players to numerous towns, not just having everyone shoved in one place. Players need to be encouraged to explore again!

...

How about:

New account still in [young] status has new characters start in New Haven.

Accounts outside of the [young] status start new characters where the player decides to start them.

Just make a starting location Rune Book ;P then gate around all day and shuttle noobs, hehe. Don't you think most noobs will read the tooltips and end up in New Haven anyway?

Giving new characters the ability to start anywhere was a bad idea. It puts newbies one click away from starting in some dead city nobody cares about, where they will wander without a clue, never seeing another player. And for what reason? So some old-timers don't have to run two screens to the Haven moongate if they wanna go to Trinsic and pretend it still matters?

Also, the function that whisks a dead young player's ghost to a random city healer is just terrible. It SHOULD whisk them to the Haven healer. Instead it dumps them in Minoc or some garbage like that, where they have NO IDEA where they are or how to get anywhere they know.

[Party][Newbie]: I was killed by an ettin !!
[Party][Guildy]: Show
[Party][Meatbread]: Youngs get teleported
[Party][Newbie]: I DUNNO WHERE I AM

Looking back, I laugh now when I remember when this exact thing happened to me. Someone gated me to despise dungeon and while inside I was killed. I was instantly teleported to Britain, a town I had never been to, and had no idea where I was or how to get back to where I had been.

It has been about 14 months since I began playing this game and for what its worth, I believe there should be a dungeon like despise on New Haven Island.

Georox has made an excellent suggestion in having new players go to different towns. Either by foot or by recall/sacred journey, a quest-like mission requiring different stops in different towns might orient a new player a little more quickly.

Also, This past summer I got a friend of mine to try the game out. I had told him about all the different possibilities of characters one could make. He got a trial account and made a ninja. When he told me he made a ninja I sort of cringed. Mostly because, in my opinion, it is a very specialized template.
I tried to get him to make a mage, a paladin or a sampire, but he was stuck on this ninja thing. Anyway, he quit playing pretty soon after because he got bored.

Take the ninja template off of the new character creation list. Replace it with a bard or a fisher or treasure hunter or something that will hold the interest of a new player a little more than a couple of weeks.

Cant agree more about ninja template for youngs. They dont last long. Same with having youngs all ower the map. The old people who wanted to help used to bank and do their business in Haven to see if they were needed. Guilds recruited as well. The youngs met other youngs and made friends. I run a New Player House on Europa wuth info books , display items, cheap or free new player armour and equippment . Our EM kindly locked down a book with info and way to get there (Trin moongate) outside the bank in Haven... I just wish all youngs had the chance to see it. If you dont have the young tag you could start anywhere but with a new account you should start in Haven.
