Here's how I imagine the method went down...

Rico: We need a Trammy thief forum, they are coming into MY forum with Stealing skill related nonsense! I can't keep them out, no matter how much I troll or how rude I am!

this "new" pvp forum maybe suggest there whould be a demand

I think it's good that PvM/collector players have their own forum rather than not really fitting into the rares/thunt scene. The old thief forum was always a ground for discussing PvP theft so I don't see why anyone can say "oh, it'll die now".

As far back as I can remember (which is 10 years at least) the UO thief forum has tried to keep out the what they called "crate" thieves. They were always directing them elsewhere therefore Rico just continues that tradition.

The nice thing I see here and have seen several times lately is that someone is listening and trying to make things better. Since we can all visit either forum, I think it is a very nice addition. Thank you very much, Zig, for listening and trying to help.

the term PvP in that title is to show its stealing from other players, as compared to the rants from some about people posting questions about Doom stealing....

I've always thought having seperate forums to segregate pvp thieves from pvm thieves was a bad idea.

It's devicive and garners a superiority complex among pvp thieves. I know the pvp thieves claim that they don't have a superiority complex, but their consistant tone tells a completely different story.

I don't care about stealing, but every time I see the pvp thief forum people tell someone that they posted in the wrong forum I roll my eyes.

I'm up with the 2 separate forum idea.

The folks that do regular the Thief forums are mainly those that engage in PvP Stealing. Those that don't frequent but do visit it, are those asking question about Doom and Tokuno Stealable artifacts. I've seen some of these guys in game and from looking at them, and how they handle themselves in these areas, it's almost 9 to 1 odds they Stone Stealing off for another skill when they aren't looking for arties, or they are running a script to pick up arties themselves log back out.

For those that came there asking questions sending to Rares and Collectors was the best for them as I was saying the regulars there were almost all strictly PvP thieves. They didn't have the answers for the most part or care about the answer, where those in the Rares and Collectors might.

PvP and PvM stealing are two totally different creatures. Everything from template, to attitude needed to play them is almost 360 from each other. Having separate forums is a good thing as it keep you from having to sort through an unknown number of posts of either type to find the information you need.

Sometimes it works for the overall benefit of a community to make decisions some may not understand at first until you look to the future a bit. There is no longer a debate on what goes where and you no longer need the secret "code" word to gain access to information. The general *feel* of the place has always been the same regardless of who watched over it.

Sure you can always have special tags in the one forum to differentiate and force an issue OR you can be blissfully unaware of certain negativity that may be directed towards you because you enjoy a different aspect of a certain skill. I can't imagine the sadness that certain ones will now feel when they no longer garner the negative attention they thrive on.

Me and my l33t behavior disorder kiddies in the middle school had our own little special corner of the basement in school. When desks went flying or the F-bomb dropped 50 times (yes I had to count em) by one student, the other students were blissfully unaware and could continue their education. Did my students resent it? Sure a little but after all it was their own behavior that relegated them to "my" area. I loved em all, still do but the right decision was made and we could continue our education our way and the other students their way.

Still really think you should save yourself some trouble and just call the forum "Stealing" that way it takes away the argument of what a thief is or isn't...

While I think it's ridiculous that "crate" thieves are not accepted by the pvp thieves and for the most part told that they were in the wrong forum, I think a separate forum for them is as good answer as we can hope for. A long time ago, I would have been on the opposite side of the argument, as I used to be strictly a PvP thief, but as the times and game changed so have I adapted. Sad the thief community as a whole hasn't as well.

This is me speaking as a regular forum poster and not as a site staff member... I recently made a skilled out stealth thief. I don't classify my character as one or the other. I try to steal from other players while they are gate fighting and I also steal from monsters. I am so tempted to just continue using the PvP thief forum for any and ALL questions I have about stealing even if it does not pertain to stealing from another player. I personally believe there was no need for two separate forums. As a staff member I must follow the wishes of the higher ups But I think making two forums just validates those elitist PvP thief belief that they are somehow better than any other thief character. They are not better. I think that if they make a PvP forum there should be separate forums for Experienced PvPers and new PvPers and trash talking PvPers. Might as well if they are going to make separate thief forums. la

Wasn't this really at all...
It was the recognition that the 'traditional' thief still has a place in the game, and the stealing skill is used by many who don't steal from other players.

I was asked to create a place for those who want to discuss stealing outside of the traditional scope of things, and it was done.

what gets me is the "traditional" thief and the ones who the pvp thief mod calls crates, which by the way i feel is slanderous, as slanderous as calling someone a shortened japanese slang, use the same stealing button in the skills area to activate teh skill to take bandaids or a milti million item that spawns in dungeon.

Where can I apply to help out moderateing the Thief forum that is more luctrivitave than the thief forum that takes bandaids and apples?

Silly elitist 'pvp-thieves'.... Personally I would have given that mod the boot, ridiculous character!

I respect Zig Zag for trying to keep everybody happy though. This is a workable solution, at least now pvm/e-thieves have a place to go to get answers to their questions instead of being scorned for them.
