Fix the town cryers, please

It's been long enough.

There's so much going on right now, some positive things are happening, gee wouldn't it be nice if there were a way of informing people in-game about the new content?

"Queen Dawn seeks intrepid adventurers to become Rangers of the Abyss! See Dexter at Castle Britannia, or visit the Herald!!"

"I have no news at this time" is better than advertising for the Treasures of Tokuno.

"All hail Queen Dawn! All hail Queen Zhah!"

Is updating the Cryers more of a pain in the ass than it seems like it'd be?

Right now it's such a contrast....Stories on the Herald, one event going, another event coming, old characters coming back....Then you log in and say news and just laugh your ass off.

Yes, fix the Town Criers - and by extention the Sherry statues.

While your at it, give the ability to the EMs to give the criers things to say - its patently stupid that they didn't start out with that ability. (Also, give them squelch PLEASE!)

The town cryer in Luna on Origin will still tell you that Cove is being attacked.

The devs are doing a huge disservice to many players by not announcing these events. No wonder many think UO is dying. You spend time on Events yet you don't want to spread the word? Two global things need to be addressed:

1) Fix the town cryers and fix the Sherry Mouse statue.
Players need to have a way to find out IN-GAME about events.
a) Have the cryers randomly bark out events. Newbies don't know that they have to say "news". Sir Helper is a great example of this use, in New Haven.
b) Give EM's the ability to create Cryers. I just recently saw an EM created cryer in Luna, so it's a start!

2)The LOG-IN SCREEN has to start making announcements. How hard is it to make a few notes onto the screen? The current login screen is rather lacking.
Suggestions:

a) Have the login screen display the announcement and FORCE the user to click an acknowledgment whenever there's a new announcement. That way they don't just hit "play" by habit. Have this forced acknowledgment nag us just ONCE per day. That way it doesn't annoy those that frequently log in and out. On the day the event(s) end, remove this announcement screen.
(Example: Cove is being invaded May 1-5. Announce this on login with a nag screen that we have to acknowledge. On May 6, remove the nag.)

This is horrible community relations as it currently stands. The UOHerald gets updated late (ex. Ranger quest started 4/5, but wasn't announced till 4/6). Ranger Quest was an AWESOME EVENT.....yet, We don't see announcement at login. Town cryers don't say a word about it. Fix this............. because many many DO NOT READ STRATICS and don't know what events are going on!!!!!

With everything going on I just forgot about the Criers... from what some of you say the people before me forgot about them quite a bit too. I'll see if there is a way we can get them updated without a patch.

I'll also try to do better about the log in announcements. I just talked to the engineers and got the ol, "We put on the front page what you tell us to put on the front page." So, again, my bad.

I put all my effort into making the publish worth knowing about and didn't put enough effort into letting people know about it.

Mark, you guys might want to take a run by Ansella Gryen on the north side of Zento (northwest of the healer's building). As a quest-giver NPC (a charming holdover from the old newbie samurai character experience), she has some interesting qualities:

• When you get within a few tiles of her location, she automatically pops up a quest offer.
• If you decline the quest, she wants to know why and gives you five choices for an answer.
• One of the options you can choose for declining the quest is "Other." Here's where things really get interesting! If you select this option, a system message pops up that says, "To help us improve your game play experience, please let us know why chose against taking the tutorial quest (ESC to cancel, ENTER to submit)." It looks as if you get 79 characters to provide an answer if you so choose. If you go ahead and type a response and press ENTER, the next thing you see is a nice message of "Thank you for your feedback!" It's even in a different color (a pretty pastel green) than the system message asking for your feedback.

There's so much more that it looks like you guys could do with NPCs. It's a real shame ones like Ansella that are actually interactive and capture player feedback aren't used more often.

#2 Why isn't the LIVE EVENTS page updated? And shouldn't it be listed up on top?

UO's website has been horribly underutilized and lifeless for nearly a decade.

Live Events was burried for Warriors of Destiny. If you weren't actively checking that page you would miss fiction and event announcements.

Please utilize the patch message and the Herald more often...

And yes, for the Criers it's been quite awhile.

ToT 3 at the earliest, longer for some shards.

The patch screen is, at the very least, better than it has been.

A team or two ago someone made the effort and it's been mostly kept up with. Not perfectly, but decently. Like now, it doesn't have Ranger of the Abyss (and should) but it does have Pub65.

Well duh, how else would they train stealth? I mean, every invasion is thwarted by the players, so the dragons became sneaky. Instead of instant attacking you, they steal one or two bandages, a potion, a bag, and insured item because they're uber leet haxors. One day! Everyone who goes to Brittan will loose everything!

Haven't you heard? Newspapers are dying? Might be time for the criers to move on.
