Fishing Bait and Rare Fish

I'm wondering if we could please get some clarification from a DEV on how this item is to be used.

Once you "bait" your hook, is that use only good for the next cast OR does the bait last til you catch the right rare fish OR is it on a timer?

There is no indication on the rod or otherwise to let you know if it has run out or if you've lost your bait...

Anyone care to share the details?

I haven't used fishing bait but I did try the crab bait.

The way it worked, was double click bait, then click crab trap. The the crab trap would say "baited for ****". If you used the crab on a stack of crab traps it would bait all of the traps in the stack, but it also took a "use" of your bait for each trap in the stack. So if you had a stack of 7 traps, you just used 7 baits. Also it seemed to only last for one toss. If you put your trap in the water, and then caught something, whether it was what it was baited for or not, the trap no longer said "baited for....". The other thing I noticed, is if you prematuraly pulled a trap out before catching anything, it no longer said "baited for...". So it appears it is good for one use, or with pole my guess would be for one single cast.

well, as it is, my fishing pole has no indication of being baited or not. I am using a heartwood runic made fishing pole though, maybe that is messing it up ?!?!
