Fire Beetle - What are they specialized to farm?

Nyxx

Hi all,

So I already have a Cu n other pets and i'm building a Fire Beetle now. I was wondering what I can farm with my fire beetle that my Cu can't farm...or that my fire beetle would be better at farming certain things than my Cu.

If someone could let me know a few things that Fire Beetles are great at farming then that would be greatly appreciated.

Nyx.

You can also use it to kill paragon Cus or normal cus if you like taming for colored ones.

A lot of necro tamers use them as their primary ride. -15 fire resist with Corpse Skin + Rune Corruption is a power combo, especially if you add in disco.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the feedback! They good for anything "Big" or is a Cu better? (By Big I mean like a boss or something like that?) Trying to find it purpose. The Necro idea is definitely good, gonna look into that. Other than used by a Necro tho, any thing I can try out. I done roof, navrey, mel and medusa, and a cu does them as good, so dont see why I should go thru the trouble of makin a fire beetle for those. I was looking for something to Hunt that is specialized for a fire beetle, something "Big". lol

Any trained up/scrolled pet will work for nearly all content. As you know, you can aboslutely use a cu at Navrey, Mel, and Medusa and do well. But using a fire beetle will go faster since it should hit harder - I don't know your builds so I can't say for sure. If the cu works for you just keep using the cu. I'm a min/max type of guy so I like to use the pets for each encounter that does the most damage. It isn't required but it's just my thing.

u can use a cu for anything and there are plenty of people that do and theres absolutely nothing wrong with that. I personally as a bard tamer find that pretty much any pet can be amazing with all the bard bonuses helping it to stay alive. I rarely ever use my cu for anything because i have more fun using 1 of the other kinds of animals. I find everyone using a cu to be a bit boring and i enjoy a variety of useful pets. Before i head into a fight i try to look up the resists of what im fighting and use a pet that counters it as such a fire beetle does fit into that style of play. In the end ur payin for the subscription do what gives u enjoyment.

@Maximus Neximus Which encounter would you use the Fire Beetle for that does the most damage?

@Specialist I agree with you. All you see is Cu's everywhere...lol. That's why I wanted to know what specifically i can use a Fire Beetle on that would be better than using a Cu.

There's also drakes that do 100% fire damage but a fire beetle does rune corruption...that's why I'm focusing on fighting something specialized for a fire beetle. FYI I'm a solo player....I might double up with a couple of people I know...

Just the four that I posted previously:
Lady Mel - if you want to farm for hair dyes and crimsons
Navrey - to farm for tangles or 3.0 SoTs
Medusa - to farm for slither or the house tile
Roof - just to mix up damage types as needed

Again, almost any trained up pet works. But matching damage type vs lowest resist will yield quicker results.

Fire Beetles are most effective as a debuffer for group combat. RC+AP Fire Beetles significantly buff a group's damage output. However, there are a few solo encounters where a RC+AI Fire Beetle (or even a Wrest Mastery one) is more effective than a Chiv+AI Cu. Most notably when farming Grizzle Keys (Disintegrating Thesis Notes) from the named spawn (other than Red Death) in Bedlam. There are so many different kinds of spawn down there, that a pet using EoO actually becomes a liability, and puts your pet at risk of dying due to the increased incoming damage.

In a completely solo situation, a 120 Chiv+AI 100% Fire Drake will out damage any other pet against Lady Mel, Navrey, or Medusa. Also Mephitis, Lord Oaks, Twaulo of the Glade, and Ilhenir the Stained.

In order to do this, the Fire Drake would need 120 everything, to be as effective as others? As such it could cost plenty to scroll possibly.
Are there any other pets that are 100% fire dam. that can get the Chiv/AI spec.?

No, he means the damage spread. If you compare it apples to apples, the drake will out perform a cu when both are scrolled the same, but like he also said, just because a pet puts out big numbers doesnt mean they are the best in a situation.

Look at the resists on bosses, and the different mobs you face. Decidebif single target is best(like tamers for doom, aoe pets with max hp might be better)

@PlayerSkillFTW Thank you very much for that detailed info: Exactly what i was looking for. I didn't know about the bedlam spawn, thanks for that. Thanks also for the info on the Fire Drake, I was actually thinking about that too and I don't have a problem spec'ing it to 120 if that's what's needed. Also great info on the bosses mentioned. Considering what a fire beetle should be fighting, what kind of resists should i put on my fire beetle? 80 75 70 70 70?

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

For almost any pet (except for ones with very specific purposes), i go with 80/80/65/60/80. Physical > Fire > Energy > Cold > Poison in terms of how prevalent damage types are. There are very few sources of significant Cold or Poison damage.
