Can someone please tell me why these require 3 follower spots?

They can fight + 1 slot, a packie + 1 slot, you can ride it + 1 slot = 3 slots

If they only took two slots all the slimy Mining Scripters would be in heaven...A blue to carry the ingots and a Fire to smelt them. They wouldn't have to unload the ingots for 3 or 4 hours and they'd have two beetles to help defend against PKers and creatures.

Whar do you want? A beetle, a fire beetle, a greater dragon, a nightmare and whatever the latest ugly rideable addition is?
Does that add up?

Nope, just trying to understand why a beetle takes the same number of control slots as a Dread Warhorse.

Perhaps we could get a Dev's input on this?

I believe Spree's explaination is the actual one. When Blue Beetles were introduced, that was one of the most powerful pets. We take them for granted now, but it is still very powerful. It is a ridable packy ... and when trained, can mete out fair damage to boot.
