Faction Items : How come I see them on vendors ?

Faction items can only be used by the Owner they are tagged to.

Then, I do not understand, how is it possible that they can be placed on a vendor with a price tag for buying them ?

Is this a bug ?

As I see it, they should just plainly not be tradeable and, therefore, also not possible to be placed on vendors up for sale.....

they can be traded and moved around and even looted from the owners corpse but yes they can only be worn by the person who originaly bought em, the only real reason to put them on a vendor is if your selling them back to the original owner to make some profit.

Can only be a bug if normal "owned by" items can not be placed on a vendor. This is almost a legitimate complaint, but honestly, would you not....perhaps, enjoy your time better actually enjoying your time? Instead of trying to find problems in every single aspect of everything? I won't bother to give examples. But again, this is as close to a legitimate complaint as I have ever seen from you.

Exactly, "owned by" items can not be placed on a vendor.

I could not remember, I remember they could not be traded....but was not sure about the vendor thing. I offered my answer, was not saying it was not a bug but rather for him to check to see if "owned by" could be placed on a vendor, and if not it was a bug.

Faction items are regularly put on vendors, usually accompanied by a notice on a board somewhere or in open chat inviting the owner to come buy them back.

This is normal practice on Siege. I guess it catches most people off guard on prodo shards.

The problem is, that this might lead to some mistakes from players spending millions thinking they are buying an item that they can use only to then find out that the item is unusable to them and a waste of their gold.......

I think they should not be tradeable nor placeable on the vendor unless, perhaps, when dealing with the original owner.

They should be stealable, though........

Question.

Are there more chances there that the original owner may actually see the note or happen to bump on that vendor to buy that item back OR, could it perhaps be more likely that some unaware buyer, perhaps a new player at the game not much privy of all of the complex inner workings, who might inadvertedly spend gold on an item which they can then not be able to use ?

If the latter is more likely, well, then I think there should be something that made anyone - but the original owner - not be able to buy the Faction item off of a vendor.....

I'm afraid I can only speak for what happens on Siege, and then only second hand since I don't play factions. On Siege the owners almost always get them back if the person who looted them is willing to return them. If they don't see the notice themselves usually a guild or alliance mate does, sometimes they'll post saying 'who got my (whatever)?

wow, what a GREAt price for that crimson cinture. Wait a second, why does thsat look funny? Oh, Faction item. guess I won't buy it then. :)

Buyer beware. Before spending you hard earned gold on any item, be as sure as possible what you are buying. I do not see any particular evil in allowing faction item sales, but people do need ot be aware of them, and be careful in making purchases. i think the information on the item data is good enough.

If memory serves... you made a thread about this a couple months ago with the exact same "New players might mistakenly buy them."

It's probably so the owner can buy them back. Like 3 others have said.

True. But that would only be if you don't pay close attention when purchasing the item. It says it's a faction item and owned by someone right on the item.

I could see conditions under which someone else's Faction gear would be a deco item.

To back up what Petra is saying. I pvp daily on Siege...also putting faction items on my vendors to purchase. We don't have insurance so the only way of getting your items back is to purchase them. Easiest way is via vendor.

Maybe people should educate themselves before wasting their money. Dumbing down a game to the point its only fun for kindergartners is a waste of my subscription money.

buyer beware.
the old saying applies
if it seems too good to be true,,,,then IT IS too good to be true.
this is like people whom buy cursed artys.
now not including seige,,,alot of people would rather just go farm more silver
and those placing them on venders are indeed trying to rip stupid people off,,
but thats UO. dont be stupid and it wont happen to you.

I don't think its the worst thing ever to spend a little gold and find out later you wasted it. It can teach a valuable lesson that will be more useful and readily appreciated IRL.

If the concern here is that people are buying the faction items thinking they're getting the genuine article, that's not a bug.

That's a learning experience.

One of my rules about buying or trading: Always make sure that the thing you're buying is the thing you THINK you're buying.
