lol I just read it myself :)

( :O and Storm beat me lol )

Well, points for addressing some concerns, although, I sort of wonder if doing multiples really do have no affect since they used to kill your stacks. At least pilots go diagonal again....

Also noticed: The size of the order is weighted depending on whether you are catching shallow water fish (x1), deep water fish(x2), or dungeon fish (x3).

So can you please tell us where lobsters and crabs fit in here? I've had miserable orders that want 3 different lobsters or crabs of 20 each. Presently they are equivalent to shallow water fish. That makes a heck of a difference in weight!

FAQ Friday #7 - Extra Fishy Edition | Mythic Entertainment | Ultima Online
Why sometimes does a player receive a scroll, and the next time some bait
or a book for the same weighted quest?

That is completely random. However, there are 4 order sizes which map to 4 categories of prizes. Each category has its own set of bait, books, scrolls, etc. - RNG plays no part.

*head desk*

It means the 4 rewards within that set are awarded by the RNG - That is completely random

Noted by the word "However":

the category sets are constant for the subset of rewards they contain. - RNG plays no part.

Geesh Fayled you write crap like this all the time. It's a shame you can't read it.

oh damn i thought they fixed it :/
Yeah...fixed from only going STRAIGHT in the wrong direction to only DIAGONAL in the wrong direction....

Ya know this probably would work better if someone tested the things being patched before it goes live :p

I tested it on TC and I know Petra did too, neither of us had issues and sailed just fine when we handed the maps to the tiller. *shrugs*

How does the monger decide which quest to give us?

The fish monger chooses randomly between a list of fish based on your fishing skill. The higher your skill, the bigger the list.
For each fish that you have completed an order for, you get a chance to get an order for 2 fish.
For each fish that you have completed an order for twice, you get a chance to get an order for 3 fish.
For each fish that you have completed an order for three times, you get a chance to get an order for 4 fish.
This progresses until you are getting orders for 6 fish.
The number of different fish in the order is always random, the only thing that changes is the odds.

How is the reward for finished quest decided?

There are categories based on order size. There is some overlap, but you get different prizes for a small order than you get for a big order.
The size of the order is weighted depending on whether you are catching shallow water fish (x1), deep water fish(x2), or dungeon fish (x3).

RNG plays no part ... except where it does
chooses randomly between a list of fish
you get a chance to get an order
number of different fish in the order is always random

Your failure to realize that

THIS!

I noticed this glaring omission as well. I want to be pragmatic about it so my guess is that they aren't so sure what crustaceans are weighted at anymore (or ever were for that matter) and so instead of giving incorrect information - they are doing a little bit of "behind the scenes" number crunching. Might want to avoid the leggy ocean critters for now if at all possible.

I've had no problems either.

Remember, the voice commands for diagonal movement are
forward left
forward right
back left
back right

I've been known to beat map-guided boats to port, using voice commands on my own, and pull directly into a boat slip at the emporium after making my last command to turn 30 or more degrees west of there (one that's typically directly east of my usual boat parking spot, so it's rarely blocked by others).

Ok, am I missing something? Are you all really having fun fishing or is it just another one of UOs monotonous, tedious systems, good for killing lots of time, but otherwise unrewarding?

If it's really got some enjoyment to it, maybe we'll give it a try.

Only good thing about fishing is MIBs/White Nets to get Scalis ... other than that, it's cool to have big fish to catch, so people can have RP contests.

So my question is not directly answered but I think it was somewhat answered. Please try to respond to this Dev.

Fact or Fiction?
Since the rep calc is based on all individual fishmonger's rep for said character, does that mean rep is char based and it is stored on individual fishmongers?

If the question above is true, then it would be safe to stone off fishing skill on a character? Does each fishmonger's stored rep for a character subject to periodic maintenance and cleared if char no longer has fishing skill?

I'm not sure what's happening for you. My tiller man is negotiating maps fine. The most recent one I asked him to follow is this one:

as you see it's quite intricate (and I won't be able to use that hiding place to avoid Nightstalker again :D )

I've been thinking about this one. Where are you sailing from and to when the boat sets off in the wrong direction? If you're trying to sail East from Moonglow to Skara, that's the problem. The tillerman doesn't recognise that the world begins again over the server line, so to get to the 'other side' of the world, he sets off all the way across it.

It's been a few days since I've been on my boat, but i'll try it again. Last map I gave my tillerman he took off at a right angle to the direction I told him to sail and I ended up where I almost always end up when my tillerman gets a mind of his own....fire. (Seriously, I don't know why but my tillerman constantly sails me to fire isle)

This generally happens when going to the sea market, instead of going due north like I had plotted it goes northeast, kinda a pain because when the maps were working well I liked that i could fish en-route and not have to worry about changing directions.

In the fire island area, are you maybe having a problem with the north/south world edge? I maybe way off with that guess, but it's the only thing I can think of.

That topic is already being discussed here:

I would say that the answer is "unknown" at this time.

Fun like getting the giggle fits? Not so much for me. I find it relaxing listening to the water splash around the boat, frustrating when I get more shoes to feed my goat than fish to fill my order, happy when I get a MIB and more happy when its white!

It's just another aspect of UO that leans more towards the crafting end with fun rewards.

Now the pirate end of the HS boosters gives me the fun giggle fits....but that could just be me ;)

UO fishing can be lots of fun:

If you have a good day on the water getting the right kind of fish you need.
If You get lots of MIBs and good rewards from the mongers.
If you have a fishing party with your friends ( bets on biggest / rarest fish help ).
If you only have a short time to play or might need to leave at a moments notice.
If you are too drunk or buzzed to be in dungeons, It's always safe to fish in shallow water.

UO fishing can be boring and frustrating :

Crabbing....uck!
Needing a bunch of one kind of crab or fish that you just can't seem to find.
Having to bind 105 scrolls to get a110, 110s to get a 115 , 115s to get your 120.
Being a compulsive person like me, that can't stop until I reach 120.
Being A hard headed person like me who plans to do it by catching my own fish.
Finally coming to realize that no one understands how the quest work.
Oh yea, did I mention crabbing ( The guy's in RL Alaska have more fun in -10 below ).
