Despite all the fancy schmancy setup, anyone ever notice that wave-invasions of monsters is the ONLY kind of events the devs seem to know how to do in the past 3 years?

The whole "Barry the Moongate" part of the current quest - lots and lots of no fighting, followed by a small dungeon with a single, non-respawning boss monster at the end. Happened 2 years and 1 month ago.
The whole "Strange Rifts" part - a mixture of fighting and no fighting, followed by a single, non-respawning boss monster at the end. Happened less than 2 years ago.
Book of Truth stuff - fight pre-existing monsters, but with a purpose. Started just over a year ago. Ended with a short invasion.
Almost all of the lesser events in the Inu the Crone plot, as well as the side-events going on during invasions, happening over the last 2 1/2 years - little-to-no combat.
