Using an energy field on yourself [various steps deleted in order not to break the RoC] in order to gain access to some place you wouldn't normally be able to get to?

IE.. Into a public house, but has its doors and teleporters set to owners only, or to the roof of Brit Castle, roof of the Shadowlords base, to the roof of any town building, etc.

This has been mentioned before. And from what I have read, it is an Exploit.

QUESTION
What constitutes an exploit?
spacer
Answer

It is hard to describe every incident which might be considered an exploit. Because the game changes, and systems change, new exploits appear as old ones go away. Basically, an exploit is the ability to do anything in the game which you should not normally be able to do. For instance, if you aren't able to walk into a house with your character, but you discover a way for an animal to break in for you, you are obviously taking advantage of an exploit. It is obvious that thieving animals are not part of the game. It is obvious you should not be able to get into houses which have the door locked. If you find a loop hole which allows you to duplicate items or create more gold, this is also considered an exploit. Are you able to kill someone in a town who is not in a warring guild? This is an exploit as well. In each instance, the rules have obviously been broken and unusual gains have been made. Knowing what is an exploit is really a matter of knowing how the game works. Ignorance that you were using an exploit will not prevent removal from the game for committing such an exploit.

I have to agree with Fayled.

Pretty much in the same category as forcing a drop of a quest item that cannot normally be removed from one's inventory:

Arguably harmless, but none the less an exploit.

I think its both an exploit and not. Before the use of ladders it was the only way one could deco the roof of their castle. I think id be quite annoyed had that been 'fixed' before ladders came in. Now though, it wouldnt affect me. *shrugs* I dont think its an exploit. If somone doesnt want somone in thier house, it should be private.
Also, im pretty sure that if you log in a house your anything but friended to, you will auto be booted from house, and when you log back in you will be under the sign.

...

It's still technically an exploit, but not NEARLY as damaging as it would have been under some of the older housing rules.

I'm not sure I can say "harmless", but would have been MUCH worse before everything had to be locked down or secured.

what kitty is whining about is that she got her but handed to her by 1 thief with no pvp skills while 6-8 of her and her guildies were trying to defend shadowlords base with at least one tamer and one track/detector there. heres the links:

Actually dipstick the first thing I assumed was Kat was asking an honest question. You trolling in here to throw stones not only shows you were involved in something underhanded but also shows how childish you are for posting.

Also...GOOD JOB on a video clearly showing yourself using exploits, way to make this game more honest! *shakes head*

Oh and while everyone is throwing stones at this "supposed" exploit. I'd like to know how many of you have runes marked to locations in which someone used this spell to get the rune marked? I know plenty of people with runes for special rares that only spawn behind locked doors...yet, they still have those runes. Let's ban them all...la

From what I recall, use of e-fields to transport yourself to inaccessible places was pretty conclusively deemed an illegal exploit based on inquiries players made to GMs, that were mentioned on the Homes & Castles forum. Of course the intended use in that arena was to get on the roof of the castle to decorate all that dull gray stone.

We had to use the goza scaffolding as a work-around because it was deemed an illegal/actionable use of an exploit for us to use the e-field technique to get on the roofs of our castles. The goza thing was deemed OK, I am guessing because it could only be implemented in a house you had been given explicit rights to lock things down, and placing the gozas requires co-owner access. The result of getting someplace you ordinarily can't get to was of course the same with either technique, but apparently the GM view of the method of the e-field exploit and its wider potential for abuse was not the same as building goza stairs to get on your castle roof and make it pretty.

I believe she was asking an honest question publicly so there would be clarification as to whether it was considered an exploit or not. That way, you get an honest answer, no drama (unless you believe you were using an exploit and are feeling defensive) and we all are on the same page with what is allowed and what is not. Just trying to all play by the same set of rules.

I honestly think you were on break for this one being talked about Rico. It was heavily discussed though and due to the number of exploits possible because of this bug it was deemed officially illegal. (not because I say so but because EA said so in public discussion)

The only reason for my post was to publicly stand up for the OPs right to ask a legitament question without being flamed into oblivion. All too often in here we see people complaining about issues that do not need fixed, post after post of rediculous scripter content. Those dont get flamed but when someone asks something legit for a concrete answer people are suddenly compelled to lay the smack down. In this case the yank decided it was alright to complain while at the same time adding validity to the OPs reason for asking if it were legit.

Hence throwing stones is like...
:gun: which leads to :stretcher: making ppl :sad2: ppl who end up like this... :gee: and then :stir: over and over again.

We need to have clear set of rules on this matter as well as blocking in faction bases. All this back and forth controversy is taking away from the fun of playing.

Of course you would, she is your guild leader, lol...la
Yes, she is my guildleader, and she was trying to clear something up publicly so we all see the same answer together and can abide by the same rules. That way, no one can say they were told one thing and we were told something different. She wasn't stirring the pot here or creating the drama everyone loves to pancake about. She was just looking for clarification as to whether it was an exploit or not...:gee:

I see it more as her way to bring up the fact that "she" thinks it's an exploit, and wants to bring it to light since she saw it's result in a player made video. She doesn't seem too concerned when it's members of her guild that are taken to task...la

dude....it was a valid question. i am a third party observer and I can see this! do you really see reason to make this into your own personal pissing contest? there was no mention in the thread of who did what until you decided to mention it! evidentally you dont seem concerned that you are the one taking a simple question and making it personal. if you dont have a legitament concern dont post. her question had nothing to do with pointing fingers. she was mature enough to leave the personal matters behind in the other thread.

perhaps you should fix the problem if it is an issue, as its been known for many years instead of pumping the game full of useless garbage in an attempt to distract us with a new toy.

Did you read the thread in the Siege forum? She came out with that question there, so anyone who did read it, knows what this thread was about. This certainly should have been handled behind the scenes instead of making a public spectacle of it..la

Third, I too have had my share of gold however I never broke the rules selling it for cash. (lol@u for saying you didnt know it was illegal...another reason for me to question your posts)Beerman72

I find it interesting that at least one person here who says it is an exploit used it to break into a publick house a while ago and got caught in the act.
