Evil Wandering NPCs & Monsters

Evil non-player characters and monsters should walk through the lands and dungeons of this world.

They should:
Appear randomly, anywhere, and be able to roam everywhere. Across server lines, into and out of dungeons and cities. Maybe some could fly over mountains, or swim the seas.

Have random names, personalities, fighting styles, intelligence, and difficulty. Each has their strengths and weaknesses. There could be fighters, mages, dragons, assassins, and thieves… the more variety the better.

Be extremely hard to kill but fairly easy to run away from. Maybe some could be killed by one or two persons, but most should take a mid-sized group; a few could take a large group, and rare ones could require an army.

Depending on their difficulty, they should carry their own unique & valuable loot items. Creatures killed in Felluca should have much better loot. They could carry special reward certificates that could be turned in for a reward of their choosing. They could carry special maps that would show where their lairs/treasure are. Special temporary titles could be applied to anyone who helps kill these creatures.

Benefits:
Enhances the game overall for casual players, role-players, PVP and PVM players. Encourages camaraderie.

Gives the players a reason to explore all of the lands and dungeons. Tracking skill could be made useful.

Discourages scripters.

I always liked the idea to have some sort of random encounter across the lands.

And the longer it takes for people the find them, the bigger and harder the spawn becomes.

Some sort of mini champion spawn encounter.

Random creature encounters in random locations would be outstanding for UO.

It makes me wonder why the limited implementation of random overland spawn that we had years ago went away.

I like the idea. It would be nice to have to defend our RP towns on occasion from something unexpected.

Is this something everyone just appends to every idea automatically without thinking about it anymore? Or do you really think that after almost 12 years THIS will be the thing that finally gets someone besides champ spawners and the Yew gate guys to go back to Fel?

we already have spawn. reapers, gargoyals, harpies, ogres, spawn right outside my house. would i like something like a medusa right outside? well, sure i guess if my crafter with 60 magery with hundreds of millions of uninsured stuff on him wouldnt get killed and looted by the monster, but right now the gargoyals are enough of a challenge for me :)

Yep.

*sighs*

Felucca is very much a failed business model, and no amount of social engineering can revive it for very long.

Maybe...

1 mini boss that isnt agresive until attacked... on each legacy dungeon.

Kill the 8 bosses... collect your reward.

You are forgetting the resource gatherers.

You would be safe inside of your own house. You could always run away. Do something else for half an hour until the evil creature passes by your area. Or call in a posse to eradicate the evil presence. The only people who have anything to truly fear would be the afk scripters.

There would have to be some differences between creatures found in Felluca compared to the Trammel rule-set lands. Thief and Assassin type monsters would have to be limited to Felluca. All wandering NPC/monsters would have to walk with a sense of purpose or direction so that they will not be in any one area for too long of a time. Trammel monsters could be slower and dish out only small amounts of damage unless attacked.

Dear Smoot:

I hope that I have not offended thee. You have brought up a good point. I would not want these creatures wandering about disrupting the lives of the good citizens of Sosaria.
I was hoping for more of a rare treat for the adventurers who grow tired of the predictability and the grind. Something grand that we could tell stories about. Some purpose that would get people, to roam the lands again. Something to bring people together to fight an unknown force of evil.

Yet another idea:

Player controlled evil/godlike/monster templates. Only one per Shard at a time. Felluca only. After login and selection of shard, if there is no currant player monster, a special box could pop up asking the player if they want to play a monster template. They would have accelerated skill gain and have access to all of the skills. Start off weak with very few hit points. But with every monster that they kill they would become stronger and gain Godlike hit points and more treasure. When they log out, the monster template is saved and passed onto the next person who chooses to play the monster.

Does this sound like a fun/good idea? Or do I need to go back to my book?

Not able to invade Guard areas!!! Guards serve a necessary and valid purpose and the creatures you suggest should be subject to Guard Justice everywhere they are already!!!

Isn't that the downside of packing all your crafting skills on one character? If you put no defense on your character you SHOULD die in seconds to anything. Otherwise keep him inside and transfer your stuff on a safer character :).
