10/25/2018 – At the Rangers Guild Hall, Shamino explained that one of the paintings from the house of the art dealer that they had recovered after vanquishing Shadow Stroke was painted with the enchanted paints. Using his own enchanted paints, Shamino painted a pathway into the painting of the necromancer to reveal what the necromancers had been hiding within it. Inside, they found a depiction of a platform floating in the void, guarded by one of the necromancers whose time within the painting had left him insane. After the rangers defeated the necromancer and his painted guardians, they found two items of note. The first was a book detailing the investigation of Shadow Stroke by the necromancers, in which it was made known that an ancient book of necromancy that had once been lost had re-emerged into existence within Shadow Stroke. The book also revealed the necromancers involvement with the Assassin who had murdered the Sheriff of Vesper. The second item of note was a portal floating at the center of the platform, however the portal itself was manifest, it did not seem to be active, and was protected by some kind of magic.

Shamino noticed a peculiar clue in the necromancer’s investigation book noting that the necromancers had found Shadow Stroke’s original painting, and that they had discovered that Shadow Stroke was unable to exist among the dead. This caused him to think that perhaps the the necromancers took the painting to the Spirit Realm, where Shadow Stroke would be in theory be unable to exist so that they could enter the painting without the entity finding them. Shortly thereafter the rangers returned to Skara Brae and traveled to Iver’s Rounding, where they then entered the Spirit Realm through the Well of Souls.

Inside the Spirit Realm, the rangers entered the illusory town and began attempting contact with the spirits that dwelled there, looking for some kind of clue. It was soon discovered that the necromancers had been spotted by some of the spirits, and that they had dwelled in forests outside of the town. The rangers explored the area and uncovered a ghostly graveyard and, within it, the painting hanging from a wall, depicting a lady gazing at a moonlit sky. Using the enchanted paints once more, Shamino painted a pathway into the painting and the rangers entered, finding the very image that had been depicted – a lady, sitting near a window and looking at the moon, yet the details of the painting seemed to break apart on the opposite of the room where the painter who created the artwork would have presumably stood and in that place only a shadow of the man who made the painting seemed to stand silently.

The lady, roused from her fixation by the intrusion of the rangers, explained as well as she was able who she was, saying only and in a melancholy voice that she was only a copy of a woman the painter loved, neither real nor true. When the rangers asked her why the necromancers had come, she stated that a dark treasure had taken form when the painter had transformed into the entity known as Shadow Stroke, a book of ancient magic that was supposed to have been destroyed. The magic contained within this tome was unknown, but it was apparent to Shamino and the rangers that whatever it was, it would almost certainly be devastating.
