(not sure this is the correct place to post this, but...)

At the auction the other day, a guildmate mention, somewhat at random, that it would be good to have a fashion show here on Siege. That got me thinking a little and I thought of the following event. I'm posting here to see what the governors think about it and whether Troubadour could/would be able to provide the town reward mention. Note that this is just a brief outline of the event:

So yes, we hold a fashion show, and town citizens would be able to showcase various outfits, varying from the purely decorative to full-on combat suits. These would be modelled catwalk style at the event. Judging these entries would be the city governors, or their chosen representatives. Awards would be given to individuals in various categories, perhaps best mage suit, best elvish suit, etc. But the most prestigious award would be to one of the towns, which would be granted the title of "Siege City of Fashion 2014", or something similar.

And so to the EM part. Perhaps the winning town could have something locked down near the bank or somewhere in town of the governor's choosing? I haven't given much thought to exactly what that would be, but something along the lines of a player-provided pedestal with a named, EM-created tailoring kit, say:

The final piece of the event could be that the designers could put up for sale a certain quantity of their designs, possibly on the forums.

Anyway, that is just the basic outline. But maybe one or two events could be done at some other point to provide similar awards, for instance "Siege City of Culture", where once again it would be the city governors themselves voting.

I understand the reservation about it turning into a popularity contest, but knowing Siege as I do, I honestly don't see that happening. I think judges will just take it for the light-hearted fun it is and will just vote according to their individual tastes. Also, the way I envisage the contest running, it will not be a simple matter of judges voting for the best city. I should probably elaborate on the idea:

Each person (designer) will be allowed to enter up to three outfits/suits in their collection. These may be purely decorative ones with no practical combat or other use, uber combat gear with high mods, or perhaps a compromise of the two. The designer must be representing a town and have a title showing to prove it.

The nine judges (governors or an appointed citizen to represent them) would judge designs in several areas. There are many categories that could be used, but we don't want too many compared with the possible number of entries, so I would probably go with:

Haute couture award: Best looking suit regardless of mods/practicality in combat.

Best mage suit: Either based on the total mods, the look, how easy it would be to "manufacture" such a suit, or a combination thereof.

Best warrior suit: As above.

Possibly one other: Best gargoyle, best elf suit or something.

In each category, the judges would give five points to the design they liked best, four to the second, three to third, etc (this might be adjusted depending on the number of entries). Judges would not be able to vote for designs from their own town. They would then seal their books and hand them in and they could be displayed later for scrutineers. The referee/organiser would then sum up the totals, and the winning designs in each category would be announced.

In addition to the awards to individual designs, the designer who received the most total votes from all designs would win the Best Designer award. Finally, the town whose designers receive the most combined votes would win the City of Fashion award. So, whilst it is possible that popularity may be a small factor, far more important is how good the designs are, how many designs each person enters, and the number of designers a town can muster.

*edit* After a dog walk on a blustery but warm day, I have further refined the categories from what I have posted above, and no doubt will continue to do so. But my point is that this should be far more than just a mere popularity contest and the best city award will be derived indirectly. With up to nine judges of varying backgrounds, this should be more about which cities can get the most/best designers and will naturally tend to favour the "big" towns, that is those with the greatest active population. But that said, there is nothing to stop the smaller cities grabbing individual awards and/or recruiting the best designers to their cause.

haven't we done successful Miss SP contests? I wouldn't worry about favoritism either. Folks will holler it, but we will have trolls whatever we decide to do

Geez Luka, that's pretty harsh.

It's their inner beauty that matters. Outer beauty is only a light switch away.
