Queen Zen, I don't know if this will be any consolation or just make you feel worse: About a week ago, I posted some information about the inconsistencies in the EM program, specifically for some of the Asian shards. As usual, no one but Kelmo bothered to respond. Even the person who instigated my post by asking for proof that those shards (i.e., Arirang, Balhae, and Formosa) were being ignored didn't bother to reply or react in any way. (Kelmo, bless his heart, pointed out that the Queen Dawn burial location on other shards is empty on Siege.)
A few days later, I was checking that thread after it had more or less died for activity and new posts and noticed that Mesanna was looking at it, along with several other people (maybe they're EMs??). I don't know if she actually got down to the posts Kelmo and I made or even looked at the screen shots I posted, but maybe if she did something will change for the better.
Siege is not quite alone in its EM situation. As far as I can tell, Arirang has never had an EM since the beginning of 2009. And Balhae and Formosa have had very spotty EM representation and seem to have last an EM almost a year ago. All three shards have ALWAYS been under Mesanna for the EM program that started in early 2009. Many people reply to my periodic posts about this issue by brushing off those three shards as Japanese shards. (I've posted about Clainin several times now.) They're not. Arirang and Balhae are Korean and Formosa is Chinese (Taiwanese). I think the IGMs from Japan have occasionally done stuff for those shards before this last EM program kicked off, but I think even then their presence was sporadic. Those three shards still have Clainin hanging out in the New Haven healer's shop. (Yes, I know Siege has no New Haven and have always wondered how his illness and later move to Trinsic were handled here.) They also don't have a burial location for Queen Dawn, and they DO have a Trammel facet so even that excuse that MIGHT apply to Siege is blown out of the water. Even Mugen, which also has the Siege ruleset, has a Queen Dawn burial location and Clainin appears to be long gone from New Haven. Maybe they have had those things happen there because they have a Trammel facet. Or maybe it's just because the Japanese IGMs are a bit more on the ball about these things....
Anyway, if you ever feel like arguing this issue again in UHall, you may want to mention these other shards as well. They are just as neglected as Siege, which in my mind makes the situation even worse. Four shards that Mesanna is directly responsible for don't have EMs to recognize player-run towns. Four shards that don't have EMs to attend/lead certain happy events like weddings. Four shards that don't have even occasional EM-run events to tie into the main story line so people feel a bit more connected to all the other players in UO.
Even if Mesanna can't find someone to be a regular EM, I think she should at least make an effort on these four shards to try to accommodate things like accepting and doing something with requests for player-run town recognition and other player-driven events like weddings. But then again, I guess not having an EM to recognize player-run towns saves Siege the arguments among the players about how only the oldest of the old player-run towns should actually be recognized. I think on some shards, those arguments have gotten pretty ugly.
My unorganized and verbose .02, for whatever their worth as a Siege newcomer.
