Essence of Persistence?

I've got 54 of the Essence of Persistence, mostly from T-Maps. As far as I know, there is no use for them. So, why the drops in treasure chests and the skele dragon mini-champ spawn?

I haven't checked yet, is there a clean-up value for these?

From what I remember they have a good number of things that drop like that but were put in for future uses. *shrugs* Now, if they ever get around to using them or not could be another story.
