Entry into housing plots.

Would the devs ever look into allowing plots to have stairs on the East side of the plot as opposed to only the South side? I know there would be issues with proximity to the adjacent lots, so there would need to be some downsizing of some spots to allow for this to take place, but I'd love to be able to use the South and/or East side of a plot to be able to better design my home based on it's location.

Just the architect in me thinking.

Thoughts?...la

I would think that the toughest part would be to create the new stairs...even though that should be fairly easy with the existing graphis being rotated...la

There could be another upgrade on the house sign which allows you to attempt to place a row of steps on the east side. Make it cost some amount of gold, 500,000 maybe. When you press the button it will check to see if it would be legal to do so (no blocking objects adjacent). If it is then the steps are created and the gold is removed from your bank box.

It might even be nice if this feature prevented someone from placing within 5 tiles adjacent to your house. But that would only go in effect if no houses are there in the first place.

Yeah, I think the issue would be determining if there was room. Being able to safely resize is a nice way to be able to this. I'd love to have stairs on the south and east side of some of my designs...la

perhaps to avoid the trouble of annoying your neighbors with steps that are too close, which could be a pain for private housing, the stairs could be indented into the foundation rather than hanging off the edge

Good idea. I actually dont get why you cant have stairs on every side of your house.

I'd love to have stairs on all four sides of a plot, that could make for some cool designs as well. Maybe as mentioned ealier, you could do that, but only you would need to use a row of the plot for the other three sides that cannot be entered right now...la

This would make a lot of houses illegally placed, it would mean you need 2 tiles on the east side for placing, which in turn would change house placement rules. So if a space that could normally fit say 18x18 now it could only fit a 17x18. I do like the idea of having steps on the east side unfortunately it would screw a lot of things up.

The key would be if you would be illegally placed by adding the other side stairs...the customizer would not allow it...la

/signed great idea! Way back when we were getting our first glimpse of KR I noticed that a few screen shots showed what appeared to be player owned custom houses with no foundation. I can't find them now but the house was placed right on the land. I was pretty pumped about that. It could have allowed entry to the plot from any direction.

That would be kinda cool. Think of the possibilites. If you could place right against a mountain or on a hil, the plot would sink into the land, and the land that was higher than the plot footprint would have to retaining walls to maintain the plot integrity. The objects on top of the ground (trees, plants, gravestones) would be part of the plot if not constructed over, so people could design homes that blend into the environment as opposed to simply removing what was once there.

Think of it as green design in UO, lol...la

I would love to have stairs on the east...and many other deco options when it comes to housing.. like spiral staircases...

It's possible but not in the way we think. The stairs on the side, back cannot be like the front ones. It will have to take up the inner footprint and allow players to go up the side of open buildings with stairs. Too many bad issues if they add another footprint to already existing houses.

Actually this would mandate a 5 square tile border on all sides of all houses.

With current shard populations being what they are I don't see that being much of a problem if it only affects new placements and grandfather placements are not allowed to place the E stairs without accessing plot resizing.

Always thought this would be great.

Let's not faciliate house hiding even more please...
Housing design has zero effect on players PVPing in houses. The main problem at the moment is the magical barrier that prevents any player not accessed from entering Felucca homes. If this barrier were removed, house fighting would revert to the Pre-AOS state in which it wasn't the completely safe haven it is today.

I think what NB is talking about is the fact that having two sides available to enter the house gives those non flagging people even more space to get into the house. You'd have to feild both sides of the house to keep them out.
Now if there was some sort of rule that says you can only have entrance stairs on one side in Fel I don't think there'd be an issue.

I was thinking of automatically placing a foundation plot just it is now then add a "remove foundation" option in the sign. This would remove all exterior steps, drop the house down to the ground and make it public/un-banable. Although something tells me this would be a nightmare to code.

Great Idea.. but I've actually seen someone enter a plot from an adjacent house on the east. Goza's made the transition for someone with the ability to teleport quick and easy.
