Enemy magical damage

Hi, i have a little question, is a newbie question so i apologyse from the beggining.
I started playing back uo after a long brake of 8 years, i am building a pure archer template, currently in near 80% most skills, res spell in 45%.
I went to hunt some monsters into covetous, i had at that moment armor resistances between 30 and 40 (i have no armor, i am collecting any useful armor i found on the ground or from monsters, but have 110 str to help me in the training process).. this is what happened, i found myself in a fight with 2 gazers that started attacking me, i lasted 2 seconds and died instantly, hadn't time even for heal myself or cast a heal spell. My question is the following: even if i have gm skills in all the template, will be this damage output always the same? will it be THAT dangerous always? of course i understand i had not a good armor, only junk but 30 40 isn't that bad, much better than zero, and there were only gazers, so how could this be with much harder monsters?

i would like to hear more about this in this so much new UO that i am learning to play again, i would like to hear more about magic resistances, protection against magic and things like that, i will appreciate your contributions, i really was surprised of how fast i dropped with those two gazers, i really don't remember if in 1999 this was like that, but as this UO is so renewed and changed, i feel lost.

Well from what you said, you could have 150 strength...it really wouldn't matter. Your resists are in the 30s and 40s so hence you will take more damage when say a fireball, lightning bolt, or any other spell is cast against you.

Which ironically and funny to say, is if you GM'd resist spells you would have 40 in all 5 resists across the board.

It will ALWAYS be that dangerous unless you can get 60 or better resists in all 5 areas. Other than that 140 dexterity for 4 second heals.

4 second heals? what did you mean with that? bandages will heal faster with higher dex?

Yes I made a post under UO Detective to answer a persons question in regards to that. The higher dexterity you have, the faster you will heal. It caps up at around 140 for a 4 second heal. It looks faster on uo assist, but this is really not the case.

Magical spells that do damage to a player do damage to one specific area of resist. Fireball, flame strike, explosion do fire damage. Energy bolt, lightning do energy, etc. The damage that you actually take from these spells can be reduced by the resists in your suit. If you have 70 resist you'll take much less damage form a spell then if you have 30-40.

Resist on your suit is capped at 70, however curse, and a few other spells, can reduce your resist in some areas. Curse will actually lower your resist in all areas to 60, but not below 60. If you have 60 resist it will still be 60, but if you have 70 it will drop to 60.

Most players try to build armor that brings all their resists to 70. This can be difficult so as long as you reach 60 you should be able to handle most situations.

The most important resist is probably fire. You can raise this above 70, It won't effect you per say, but if your hit with a corpse skin spell it will help counter the amount of resist you lose.

Curse by monsters will not reduce your resists to 60's across the board. That was a temporary glitch that was fixed. Players in pvp, yes, will curse you to reduce your resists to 60's.
PvP and monsters will reduce your stats like str/dex/int.
