Emails

I have recieved 4 emails 2 from runescape and 2 from Blizzard entertainment about my accts information being sold or traded. I do not have any accts with these 2 places. Just with uo. They talk about a WoW acct and Runescape. They want me to go to a webpage and log in there which I have no account password or account name with.

Is anyone else getting any of these emails? This is just in the past few days and after I have had my 2 accounts migrated. Suggestions?

The things are not connected. We've had these phishing emails for months. Just delete them.

I get them too, in fact, just got one in the last day or two.

How do they know our email addresses?

Because you've probably used the same email on sites in the past, for newsletters, etc. that give your address to "3rd parties" who give to their "3rd parties" etc. etc. until it finds its way to some less than reputable people who add it to their mass-mail spam lists.

You may have also used the address on a site who post it publicly in your profile or similar, which are them harvested by automated crawlers looking for active email addresses appearing on the web for the purposes of spam.

But yeah, WoW/Runescape blind phishing emails are common since they're very popular games. I've seen others for Rift also. If a game is popular enough, the phishers will blindly target their lists hoping they'll get lucky at least a couple of times and, unfortunately, they usually do.

It was a pointed question. The email address I use on stratics (the one receiving the emails) is actually one I rarely use on other sites. It is however, the same one I used in my most recent come back to UO. I reclaimed this stratics account around the same time i rereg'd on UO and that was suspiciously about the same time I started getting the WoW/Runescape emails on this address, that I've had for almost a decade. Is stratics or EA selling our emails to third party sites? Or is there something going on they don't know about?

I would recommend that you never use the same email address on ANY other UO connected site as you do for your UO registration with EA.
And no - we are most assuredly NOT selling email addresses.

I changed my EA registration email awhile back after seeing you post this same tip in another thread, but nevertheless what was done was done and the emails started showing up around the same time that it was in both places. Thank you for clarifying about not selling email addresses.

no ... it was a General question ...
NOW it's a bit more direct, but STILL not: pointed.

To have been pointed ... It WOULD have described the point ...
such as: I only use this e-mail for UO ... <<< thats pointed and refined and delimited and precise ...

Since you >only< "rarely use on other sites" the email ...
 THAT'S where the leakage may have occured.

IF it had been ONLY with EA ... THEN >pointing towards EA< would have been logical/appropriate ...

worthwhile,
in noting.
*shrugs*

It remains >Likely< that the leakage occured FROM one of EA's "partners" ... as listed (and therefore known/knowable) to currently be listed in the "privacy policy"

It was a pointed question, not a general one. Yes, EA is the more likely suspect here (between stratics and EA), but stratics was also on the list as are other sites, as explained. Petra answered the question I had for stratics, she got the point.
