Nathan Hawke was pleased. Evidence showed that Mizara Khan, who was almost certainly behind the Yewish Plague, was not only vain she was a keen horse-rider. Discussions with the Royal Guard had further convinced Nathan that the Palio series was a perfect opportunity to trap her. She would, theoretically, be off her guard, and the prospect of not only winning a fancy necklace but showing off her riding skills was more than she could resist.

In theory.

Nathan had posters placed up around the towns offering a ruby encrusted necklace as first prize for winning the Nujlem Palio. One thing he did suddenly realise was that he didn't have a suitable candidate to host the Palio. Muttering to himself he knew he was the person to run this Palio and try and keep an eye on what was happening there...

Meanwhile somewhere else...

Mizara Khan licked her lips and smiled. She would have purred if she were any more cat-like.

So that idiot Hawke had set up a series of horse races?

Just in case he had found out her secret hobby she decided she would play this first one quite cool. She would observe quietly and see what transpired.

Mizara Khan's survival instincts for once had overridden her vanity. But it was a hard battle for her to keep waging and she knew that she had to win one of those necklaces. Even if... Besides someone had killed her prize horse and she was busy training up her new found racer. No point in competing unless one knew one was going to win eh?
