Effort vs reward

I am currently engaged in trying to acquire enough bronze rock for a multiple table project.

Frankly, I preferred the old steady state mining, where colored ore spots didn't change.

I also find the necessity of having to divide ore piles on valorite and verite incredibly irritating.

I have had a great deal of difficulty acquiring the necessary rock. Even with a 25% masonry bonus and GM Carpentry I am still failing frequently and 105 gloves of mining.

I'm making tables for heaven's sake not PVP weapons--couldn't this be a little less frustrating?

Also I would like to point out that the harder a resource is to acquire the more likely it is to be duped and farmed.

on the other hand, look at it like this, no more mining books/library to worry about, mine are all for sale, even the html color named ones - more lockdowns too. The skill is all but dead now, killed like they did t-mappers, lumberjacks next.
all under the leadership of someone who didn't even play, what a joke, and the joke was on us

look on the bright side, it made the resources incredibly cheap to buy as it's super easy to script in out of the way spots now.....no more fighting over the val spots....

/sarcasm (for those that dont realize)

the system in place makes it more difficult for these types of resources to be scripted. this system makes the resources of mining a bit more worth the time invested in collecting them. also, the 25% masonry bonus does nothing to gather rocks, it just adds 25% to your success chance when crafting a particular item.

Also I would like to point out that the harder a resource is to acquire the more likely it is to be duped and farmed.
i don't think resources are subject to duping; people dupe items and gold. they take the risk duping things that are worth their time and effort. not rocks.

...

Just spent a good bit of this afternoon mining and got a good mix of colors up to and including Valorite without a problem, saw ZERO scriptors in the process as well.

It's no easier (or harder) to scirpt mine now than it was then, but there's no more guarantee for the scriptor as to the type of ore they get. The only advantage they have is time (which they always had anyway).

As for targeting one type of ore/stone, always remember that you can bump the level of a mining location once or twice based on the equipment you use (prosp tool and garg pick) which makes getting the types of material easier.

"Targeted" mining is dead, yes, but "Strip" mining works well under the current system... just get your fire beetle, set up your macros accordingly (especially if you run the EC which makes it even easier), and go to town. Then stockpile the types you don't need at the moment so you have them when you DO need them... at least stone stacks now (which at one point it DIDN'T).

Ugh.

Stop making excuses for the lazy methods used to deter scripting. Methods that haven't worked, btw.

I gave up on mining years ago since finding a needed ore/stone was well past the level of annoyance. Less people mining just makes it easier for the scripters. Scripters won.

As for masonry success being sucky, I completely agree. It's even worse when trying to make the stone-gobbling gargish beds.

?? huh

the new system makes it WAY easier, as it can be done from any little rock on the ground, or ledge in the backwaters of fel, no need to go to specific valorite spots (which are well known and patroled) anymore. While true that for time invested they get less valorite and high end metals, but you forget scripting has no time limit, they do it 24/7, so while it may take you hours to get a decent amount of valorite, they can get a few thousand a day, not to mention the masses of other metals.

It's so hard now to get a decent amount of high end metals actually actively playing that it's impossible to compete with the prices set by the scripting accounts. In a hour of playtime I can get MAYBE 100-200 val, thats with prospectors tool and if i'm lucky, that much on ATL would be valued at 75k or 150k gold, which takes about 30 minutes farming something low end like ettins, or just a few kills of higher end creatures. at that value/time ratio what's even the point of playing a miner these days.

But don't take my word for it, go out and find them, on ATL i've seen them back by the minoc caves, over on ocllo and bucs den (out in the forested area, there's minable ground area there) and some even chance the old common ares like cove and the mountains around covetous. There's lots of people script farming trees too, i've seen them in south skara brae, and mostly around guard zones where theres little spawn but no people around. There's more people scripting resources in fel at any time than there are players actually playing.....
