To drop my five cents about the issues where the EC just poofes.

I think it is related to ATI graphic cards. I never had any issues when I had NVIDIA cards but since I was forced to switch to ATI for other reasons I get this client poofings too.

I use the NVidia GeForce 8800GTS card and very rarely get a drop to desktop - maybe twice in the last month with an average 4 or 5 hours in-game each day.

The day of the new patch/Ter Mur Quest, my classic client kept crashing every 5 minutes or so. This week, think it was Thursday, when I patched again, it seems to have improved.

the 320 or 640 one ?
I was running two 320's in sli out to a MatroxTHTG... on Rift/UO EC, night and day difference between two 320's in sli vs. one 5850.

It's not just the EC client, we are getting it in CC too. Got dropped on more then 1 shard over the last week. The client just poofs. no warning.

check your power supply make sure its has enough amp, ati cards are very picky.
they might work with less then rated for awhile but then poof, crash to desktop or blue screen.

I run dual GeForce 9800 GTX's on my rig and its proven to be extremely stable..
But in the last 72 hours I've also popped right to the desktop with no error message... twice. Once was at a very inconvenient time to say the least.
