EA Quest Programming Makes No Sense...

I have been doing the Professional Fisher Quests for weeks now and I am starting to get a little frustrated with the quest system.

I believe the quest giver/rewarder should factor in that fact that you are capped at your current skill because you have not been rewarded a Power Scroll to increase your cap. It becomes annoying doing quest after to quest and not being able to gain skill for it and getting junk rewards (like books).

In other games you go on quests in order to gain that reward and progress your character. In UO it seems like you have to remain idle and "hope" you get the Power Scroll, while scripters get 2-3 a day.

What should happen is if you are at your cap then your chances of PS reward should increase. Obviously to deter abuse, from people who will stay capped to get more scrolls, this chance increase should cease working once you've obtained 1 Power Scroll per level.

Lastly, I think the point system is terrible....Lobsters/Crabs should be worth more than Sea Fish because they are harder to catch (and more of a pain). They are harder to catch because of the whole trap system and waiting 2 minutes for it to "bob" but also because you catch 4 different types of generic crab/lobster that are utterly useless

I know this will fall on deaf ears but it maybe one EA developer will read this and realize why players get frusted and leave.

P.S. I'd like to add that my frustration mounts from the fact that I am currently at 115 fishing and I have yet to get a 110 Power Scroll, 115 Power or 120 Power Scroll (I had to buy the 110 and 115). Its absurb that I have gone from 100 to 115 without gaining a 110, 115 or 120 after doing the quests constantly

well the fact that we have to pay a lot of money to get the new boats to loose the either to bugs or decay turns me off and then the saltpeter thing dont get me started. I was looking forward to the fishing quest but after reading about all the problems and how bad the drop rates are I not even going to both like you it would just **** me off and frustrate me, no thanks its been a complete let down a waste of in game gold and real money not enjoyable by any means. very disappointed in how they did things and it could have been an awesome expansion and still could be if they would put the saltpeter vendors back in every harbor and turn up the drop rate of the PS and what about the books and lava lobsters nvm just nvm I give up with this crew time for a change thats for sure......

I have been doing the Professional Fisher Quests for weeks now and I am starting to get a little frustrated with the quest system.

May I ask for how long you have been doing Fishing Quests ?

I am asking, because I have been doing them for months now, for several weeks all I have been doing in game was fishing, 100% of my playing time, and I never got more than 110 fishing PS. Never a 115 nor a 120.

Yet, I am not complaining about the Quests' system "per se" but rather, about the RNG and about scripting.

Why ?

Because scripting makes fishing a joke, included crabs and lobsters, which is totally not fair towards those who play fair and square and do not script, and the RNG makes it so that those who script can push it for more quests (having more fish, crabs and lobsters to burn...) and can end up in that lucky RNG streak where they can get several 120s because of the streaky RNG.

So, I'd rather prefer to see scripting go and a new RNG that is not streaky........

I cant answer that question with absolute certainty but I would say about 3 weeks...

I fish from port to port and drop off the fish and accept a new quest. I do this everyday for about 6 hours (when i get home from work until bed). On weekends if I am not out with friends I go to town on fishing and play all day/night.

To put it in prospective the amount of quests I have done. I have about 3,000 "junk" lobster/crabs. About 200 of each speciality crab and about 26,000 stones of fish. Also bare in mind that I have turned in alot of fishing/crabs/lobsters so the weight would be double or triple.

This is what I am saying, by this point the game should factor in that you are stuck at 115 fishing and mercy give you a 120 scroll. However, it should only do it once per character so the scripters dont take advantage and never eat the scroll to surpass their cap

Additionally what makes the quest system stupid is it seems to give you the rewards when you dont need them anymore....

I got a 105 Power Scroll at 112, wow thanks for nothing. I am at 115 right now (and stuck), i bet you anything in the next 30 quests ill get a 110.

The formula for reward is the value of each fish, how hard would it be to add an additional line/factor +50 if you are capped

I fished about 24 hours per week, initially.

I got my first 105 scroll after fishing (doing quests) for 3 weeks.
I got my first 110 scroll at 104.9 skill, a couple weeks later.
I got my first 120 scroll at 109.7 skill, a couple months later.
Since then, I've cut down to about 6-8 hours a week fishing, and have gotten another 120 scroll, and enough 105s and 110s to get 2 115s (though instead of getting one of the 115s, I gave every fisher in my alliance stuck below 105 a 110 scroll). I've yet to see a naturally-spawned 115.

It's a matter of good or bad RL luck - not semi-mythical scripters whose scripts would be disrupted by something as simple as a 150 stone big fish or a couple of fished up deep sea serpents. And I trigger those with keystrokes.

the closest thing to a script is one of 2 UOA macros - "Back One" 8 times and 8 target relative casts, or 6 "last target" casts for stationary fishing (like in dungeons).

Agrees w/ OP. I think there should be a set path, a list of things that char needs to do in order to receive a PS, and obtainable Beforehand to make skill progression seamless.

NO RNG! - Do the job(s), get the widget. Easy, simple. You know what to expect.
Just like IRL learning (school), complete xyz classes, get the degree - no randomness to it.

After fishing, apply it to blacksmith and tailor as well.

I now have 120 scrolls on both my fishermen. One on Siege and one on Europa. My Europa char got 2 x 115 scrolls along the way. One he ate, one he traded. It hasn't taken me anything like as long as it did to train my 120 tamer.

Taming is a whole different animal...my tamer was created back in 1999 and he is only 116.1 I have no problem with the skill taking forever to level but sitting idle and capped ticks me off.

Everyday I go out to do the quests (and fish along the way even though I am selling fish/crabs cause I have too much) I get mad knowing that every cast it could be 115.1 but it isn't cause I have yet to get a 120

I can't say just how long I have been doing the fishing quests, off and on since High Seas came out. I have recieved 5 105's and 10 110's since I started. I still have 2 105's and 6 110's left. I sold one 110 for 5 Mil and I gave 2 to guildmates, I ate one on another character. Oh and by the way I only have gm fishing skill on the character I use for the quests. I believe these quests are based more on loyalty to the quest giver's than on fishing skill. I am amased that it will take a better part of a day to fish up 20 dungeness crab to fill an order. I would like to see this improved on and lower the number of the plain crabs and lobsters. I hate crab fishing too.

The quest is based on Skill as well, Gunner..since you won't get dungeon quests until 106.

I am glad u agree about the crabs if we can get a general consensus maybe they will change it because as it stands now dungeon fish are worth 1.5 while crabs which are a lot harder to catch are 1.0

I Agree with this thread 100%, I believe quests should give some kind of specific reward and maybe a chance at a rare item equip-able or deco w/e as opposed to a bag of random "Crap" everytime which is like 999999.9% useless
because of imbuing you just dont find good loot from quests and mobs anymore.

I think there should be properties specific to mob loot & Crafting, and items with this "new property" should not beable to be imbued, just so there will be a point to hunting & Crafting item via runic tools again. other then just for relic fragments.
