Cat- Here is MY defination of an exploit...

Let say you make your sim touch a plant, then at the same time make your cannon go off and make your sim say ha ha ha 3 times in a row at the same time. Now you look at your money *poof* you made a million simoleans just by doing that. (just an example) At this point you would report it at the bug boards...but if you keep doing it over and over till your a trillionaire now you have exploited the bug. If you read your TOS agreement you would know that you just broke the rules (and our hearts) and now you cant play TSO

*twitch*

I hope this helped!

[/ QUOTE ]

Ahh, thank you for the example, makes alot of sense now.
Also, I agree it does suck people are doing that because this game becomes part of peoples daily routine, a habit and it's very hard to break.

And if prizes were handed out for the biggest well you decide what you should be called............you just won the blue ribbon!!!!!! The Devs work there Asses off and get very little thanks in return. And are told that they dont care well I for one can vouch that they DO care alot. When that Phising site was posted here on stratics yes I was one that clicked on it. When it was all said and done it took 9 days but everything was returned to my wife and myself. Am I a cheerleader HELL YES AND IM PROUD OF IT!!!!!!!! THE DEVS ROCK!!!!!!

If you went to the gas station, paid for 10 gallons but only got 9 delivered would you be ok with it? If your cable was out 3 days every month, would it be acceptable? You deposit 100 in the bank but your balance showed 90, would that be ok because the programmers there "try real hard"? Phone? Electric? Why is TSO any different?

[/ QUOTE ]

Here on stratics we're always comparing the game to other worldly activities. We could go on for days coming up with "EA-Land is like _____" posts. We need to establish the fact this is a game that we willingly pay for. If I wanted to use that analogy and counter-attack your statement, I could, but I won't get into that. The dev team has been doing everything in their power to push out bug fixes, workarounds for exploits, as well as releasing new content. Trust me, I would not be backing them up unless I truly felt that way; I have been very cautious to support anything I didn't feel granted praise, but this isn't the case. Just look at the EA blog, or even the game itself. One server of the game being offline for a day shouldn't automatically permit us to demand rewards and gifts. We can either have a functioning game, or another exploit that'll destroy the game for more years to come while we bask in our pool of presents.

I pick stable game-play, but hey, that's just me.

wow, im sorry to hear that even in this version, there are people that don't understand why it was created....that sucks, but I guess is a part of it.

here is the dif, or rather, a similarity, if gas was 20 bucks a gallon, you would still pay it because you love, well not walking lol. If your cable was down regularly you may change companies, but i doubt you would do without cable. But there are not any other companies that offer sims online, or ealand avatars or whatever u want to call it. Say , WOW, SL, or any other online game all you want, the experience is not the same. And tooo may people spend to much of their lives on this game, have tooo much of their lives invested in this game. They cant stand the thought of parting with it so they will take whatever morsel, no matter how small, that is handed their way. And EA knows that. Had I not gotten into this game prior to them closing the cities, and had money handed to me from people so i could build, i doubt i would have stayed. But thankfully i did so i dont have to scrounge around like new players do. But at the rate that job pays are headed, and the increase in green decay, the extreme lag, etc, etc, it has made this game less than enjoyable for those of us who do not depend on it solely for a life. Don't get me wrong, i like the game, but i am not so dependent on it that i couldn't live without it. I have played it off and on for around 4 years for that sole reason. When it bored me i'd take a hiatus. The only thing that keeps me hanging on at this point is the hope that this will all level out.

Personally, I would like to see it brought back up. Just ban the ones who did the exploit and work on the rest tomorrow. I did nothing wrong and feel like I'm being punished...again. I've been waiting to play my BF sims. And I'd like to play at least ONE of my sims tonight...even if it to skill.

[/ QUOTE ]

My husband did nothing wrong either except to find the bug that was exploiting money and report it as well as a few others. So those accounts that found and reported it, will also be held in a ban. What do you find fair about that. I feel the entire city should remain closed until the problem is fixed. If we are really a "community", then we should act like one and support the fact that if the game has a problem, then the entire community should come together and get it fixed. Don't assume that everyone involved are cheaters because they are NOT! I'm just happy that a few found this problem and got the details to the Dev's before it got any worse than it did. Also to the ones who did try to take advantage of this I think should be sent on their merry ways with no return! Also, we have been waiting for our BF sims too since one of them has 110 locks and can't wait to get back into the game.

Agreed - I didn't like being "down" all night long either, but I got to play with the boards and realize there is a plethura of information out here, as well as meeting people I didn't know before.

Patience. We all just need to learn a little patience.

The devs don't work for thanks - they work for money. This isn't run by overworked volunteers slaving away in their basement after putting in a full day's work.

Parizad gave these figures a few minutes ago in the Community Hall in TC3:

<ul>[*]approximately 30 accounts participated in the exploit[*]250K leaked into EA-Land bc of the exploit ... in 3 hours[*]It is taking hours to take the money back out because it spread throughout the game.

[/ QUOTE ]

250,000 DOLLARS! That means 250 million simoleans.

[/ QUOTE ]*cough* *choke*

Could you just imagine what kind of a mess this would be if cash-out were enabled?

Something like this could easily shut this entire game down forever - in one night!

Maybe, this is a good sign NOT! to place in the cash-out feature EVER! cause this happen. Sorry to be negative but some people would exploit this feature.

And put a big dent in EA finances as a whole. I say keep it down for the night, get some sleep and don't do anything rash.
Tomorrow is another day.

I would pick number 1 because you ppl need sleep like we all do LOL

I would pick number 2 even tough I do have a shop and was sleeping during this exploit LOL If my account had things bought off it and you need to take it back then so be it if it's banned when I get back in then I know that I have to wait til you all get it fixed. LOL TC3 is fun enough to play in for all that are waiting come play there!

Choices choices which one should I pick LOL Do what you all think is best.

wow I can't believe how crazy this is, lol! I am truly glad that the Dev team is taking action to this in a great manner! Are those 30 accounts going to be banned? I don't think they deserve to play... ever, lol. Anyway I would like option two but I do understand that is unfair to those who received the dirty money. Good look devs!

Some of them reported the problem right away, they should not be banned. One player contacted me with the details to make sure the dev team got the message. So no we cant just ban all of them.

[/ QUOTE ]By what I understand, it should be very easy to tell who accidentally stumbled across it and ceased and immediately reported it, and someone who took advantage of it.

It has been stated that we are a community and that we should all stand together. I agree. We are a "family" so to speak. When one person is down, then others come together and help out and come together and pull the weight of the on down. Like in our RL family, when one is hurt, sick or in the hospital, the rest of the family come together and do the cooking, cleaning and shopping of the one that is down. They don't just sit there and watch one suffer or point and laugh. We are better then that. We should show strength as a whole group and pull through this together. We shall get over this as well. i am happy that there were a few brave and honest people that reported this exploit and help catch this and contributed to fixing it. Should the honest ones get banned? No. they should be praised and thanked for reporting it to the devs and higher ups. Now the ones that did know of the exploited, took advantage of it and ran with it? They should be punished for it. Just like in RL, if caught stealing and found guilty, they are punished for it. Just my opinion.

"what part of EA did you missunderstand? We know where you live and who you are! In fact EA is on their way over to your house to drink your beer/soda, eat your food, and leave wet towels on your bed and/or floor. Maybe even order pay per view to run up YOUR bills! Thanks for trying to mess with EA and have a good night"

OK there is something I am not understanding about this whole situation. This exploit was discovered and reported by some players to EA. Meanwhile 250 million simoleans leaked into our economy over a three hour period.

When exploits were discussed months ago at the Pub we were told that EA had a system in place that would sound off a warning and immediately shut down the game if there was a sudden influx of simoleans. Why did this not occur?

If it had we wouldn't all be sitting here now waiting for this money to be tracked down and taken out of the game. How could this much money hit in such a short period of time without being detected by the game?

So just ban those 30 accounts and let the rest of us back in for the night. That way you guys get a break and we get to play a little bit. Everyone wins..except those 30 or so accounts.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ummmmm Speedy, What if you we're one of the good guys that found this bug and inadvertently made a large sum of money. You then immediately reported it to the Dev's and end up being banned with the group because you now possess exploit money. Should you be banned?

That is no different than a store owner who unknowingly receives it through a sale, or a property owner who receives it through a tip jar. Now what side of the fence are you on? Still selfish about what's good for you? Or, do you now understand how the bystanders feel?,...or, am I just wasting my breath because you just don't care about anything outside your personal little space?

Oh and maybe buy back my St. Bernard... and buy a simmy for my simatar who lost one, and and and...

So if you were going to keep on working for a few more hours, why bother asking what we wanted you to do in the first place? you could've just as easily given up for the night, ban the perps, and let the rest of us back in 2 freaking hours ago. The problem will still be there in the morning. Instead this has created a flame war that could've been avoided. Sorry if I sound a bit short, but this has really taken it's toll on me.

Guess I don't have to worry...I still have my 500 bucks from the beginning. Also, I wondered how one group could have soooo many trees and such huge lots when some of us in EA-Land have just a pittance. Ahhh well fix the issue,I'm off to do the dishes from 3 days ago.
