I agree to bringing it back up...Sorry to the innocents who get the shaft in all this..its a bummer, but as Pari's siggy quote says "No one person or even one group of people is more important than the community as a whole."

give all of them -$250,000,000! Let them try and work their way out of that.

LOL!! that literally made me ell oh ell.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to somehow work it into the ToS that anybody who willingly uses an exploit for money will have their account charged for the value of the simoleans brought into the economy. I don't know the legal ramifications, but I think it would stop people from abusing them.

here is my oppinion for what it is worth we went down at 10 am my time, it is now 1030pm my time. If i cant play for 24 plus hours I think we should get a lil something in return. Have dealt with lag, disappearing items from inventory,, and now this go with option 2 or give us that are punished for those 30 accounts a little treat.

Okay, here's the situation... As most of you know, we had an exploit on EA-Land last night. We've closed down the city to fix the exploit and to remove the simoleans from the accounts. We had hoped to have EA-Land online by now, but as you can see, we are still working on it.

We have two options:

1. If we're not done in the next 4 hours, we will go home for the night to sleep, and EA-Land will remain offline until sometime tomorrow.

2. If we're not done in the next 4 hours, we bring EA-Land back online, but ban all of the accounts that were associated with this exploit. That would put a bubble over those accounts until we finish cleaning up the exploit funds tomorrow.

We're very hesitant to do this becuase there are store owners and other bystanders that had absolutely nothing to do with the exploit. They just happen to get their hands on some dirty money.

#2 gurl that's what they need to do, they new what they was doing !

Actually it might do me good to go to bed early. I would probably be more alert in the morning and not sit in a comatose state at my desk for several hours trying to wake up. LOL. I trust the Devs and Parizad will do what's best and hopefully get a few hours of sleep. Can't imagine what it's like in THAT office in the mornings. Silently handing around huge mugs of coffee from Starbucks or maybe even an XXL can of Monster???? LOL

How many days has TSO been down in the last 30? Let's conservatively say 3 or roughly 10%. Multiply by however many paying TSO accounts there are. I don't think EA would be happy explaining a 10% revenue loss. I further suspect the QA/Test team would be unhappy with a 10% cut in their pay for allowing this code to go through.

I live on the West Coast and it's not to late for me to plan,so screw that idea about it being to late to play and I don't go to bed until 10-11 PST my time and still get up at 3am for work. So my vote goes for option #2.

It's not the dev team's fault that 30 idiots decided to smuggle money across the border. Every single person here should be head over heels that something is being done about it. I'm not asskissing, but being logical here; it was apparent what happened to exploits that went without care for years on end. A dev team and new game later, we have nearly instantaneous feedback and workarounds regarding exploits. They owe us nothing more on this issue in my opinion.

at roughly 33 cents a day, and it's down for 3 days... that's a buck, not a big deal to me and definitely not enough for me to yank my accounts - I just want to play, it's the addiction part of the game, not the financial part, and I'll wait =)

and cross my fingers, and toes.. that it's up and running when I get home tomorrow night from work!!

Nobody is blaming the devs. But with the lag so bad lately that it's hard to play in the first place and now this, I think a little reward for the good guys might be nice.

Parizad gave these figures a few minutes ago in the Community Hall in TC3:

<ul>[*]approximately 30 accounts participated in the exploit[*]250 million game bucks leaked into EA-Land bc of the exploit ... in 3 hours[*]It is taking hours to take the money back out because it spread throughout the game.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is why the sellback feature will take a long time to impement.

I know I was nor involved becuase I spent yesterday making CC and spending $ not making $.

Ban em all!

You know...now might be a good time to bring up the "buy back simolean" feature at the ATM's. I know darn well the exploiters would have sold back the 250 million via ATM for RL money. Then the evil do'ers wouldnt have bothered any of us AND ea would have their pay pal account number. It might make life easier for the dev team and us. *twitch* Im sure that would make heads turn with that kind of transaction!

*twitch*

If you went to the gas station, paid for 10 gallons but only got 9 delivered would you be ok with it? If your cable was out 3 days every month, would it be acceptable? You deposit 100 in the bank but your balance showed 90, would that be ok because the programmers there "try real hard"? Phone? Electric? Why is TSO any different?

Well, there is a plus side... Everyone has had plenty of time to do disk cleanups and defragments.

I've been on sims for about a year, but never on forums and never really took time to understand what all the bugs and situations mean.

Anyway, I was wondering if someone could explain what "exploit" money is on this game and how it happens?

Thanks for any help.

R

Riley-

I pay more for gas, cable, etc... TSO is a cheap online game. We don't want the money back, we want to be able to play the game, which is why they're busting their butts to fix it.

Patience... it sucks, believe me, I know.. but it will be worth it!!

its money not made legally... ie.. a bug ... an illeagle program any of that nature.. its bad money not made in the way money was orginally designed to be made.

My point was not about the money, it's about getting what you pay for regardless of the cost. The problems in this game are not caused by cosmic rays, aliens from another planet or a disturbance in the force - they're caused by an embarresingly poor QA/testing process. No argument that the developers work hard at this, but without the support they need they can't be succesful. If this was a bank they'd be out of business after the officers were hung by the stockholders.

Cat- Here is MY defination of an exploit...

Let say you make your sim touch a plant, then at the same time make your cannon go off and make your sim say ha ha ha 3 times in a row at the same time. Now you look at your money *poof* you made a million simoleans just by doing that. (just an example) At this point you would report it at the bug boards...but if you keep doing it over and over till your a trillionaire now you have exploited the bug. If you read your TOS agreement you would know that you just broke the rules (and our hearts) and now you cant play TSO

*twitch*

I hope this helped!

Thank you very much.

And Nik, thanks for the heads up and the welcome. *hugs*

ETA: Thank you all, just read above posts.
And yes I was more confused with what it meant for the game than in terms of what happened, but still good to know what lines I can't cross. Hehe
