Can someone please tell me how communication crystals work? How do you get one to be a broadcaster and another one to be a reciever?

One is a com crystal and one is a reciever. If I remember right, the list shows several com crystals going down with the last one being the reciever. Buy one of each and d-click one and target the other to link them.
