SA is outstanding. I will enjoy it for a while.
Great event.
Fun turkeys to come.

But everyone once an a while its time to reduce. I figured they reduced UO staff. More importantly they did it in a cut and kick out way. Im talking EA... I understand cuts and business and all that BUT

I dont like the way EA handled it. I dropped an account. Hope to the fallen.

I wont stop playing, I just stop paying (well paying more).

What are you going to do with the money you save?

There is a food crisis going on in East Africa just now.
Just saying....

Same here. I will close down all but one account before the next billing cycle. I´ll play it until they shut down UO or my shard.

From the EC's "Help me pick a shard!", it seems like there will only be 5 or 6 shards.. Atlantic, Pacific, Europa, and asian shards.

So is this a protest of sorts? For what?

Well not a protest. If I was protesting I would cancel them all or supsend them till a right occured.

Im just saying....Hey I dont like the way you did things. So Im dropping 1 account.

If in the future and I think they were on the verge with SA... they string together a couple of good years... Ill add more.

It might still happen. I have no clue who is doing what with UO. Good hands, band hands, I have no information to form an opinion.

I just don't like how EA went about it.

*scratches head* I suppose if enough people deactivate accounts, EA will deactivate UO. Can't say the thought makes me very happy.

If we had that power and it really effected UO, that be nice.

We don't.

Precisely. Deactivating accounts solely as a form of protest is not a great deal different than shooting onself in the foot (assuming that one wants UO to keep going).

It goes based on location. Someone on the west coast will be recommended a "local" server such as Pacific likewise the folks across the pond would be sent to Europa.

Id say quitting completely is. Closing 1 accounts is fine. Gives me ankle support.

Good Morning.

You guys are laid off. Please leave.
several years ago, there was a company that onthe thanksgiving weekend, before people took off for the holidays, they were told to call a 1-800 number on Sunday before coming into work on Monday morning. The message was a mass layoff of the company going out of business and told everyone not to come in, they were laid off.

When my company and another company merged, they laid off a lot of the other company's employees at many of their locations. They called them into a room on monday morning, put in a video tape. The tape fired them, then, the doors opened and all the employees were escorted off the premises by the police.

Very nice. Way to care for your employees. All of us not laid off were happy to have our jobs, but i don't know of anyone thatg had any faith in the company after that. They talked a good talk about "be of value and be valued", but everyone knew it was a one way street.

Sounds like a company I used to work for. How I missed being laid off I'll never know. They would get big government orders, hire on massive staff and work them like dogs to fill the order, then when it was all finished. Lay off most of them on Friday just around quitting time. Then when the next order came in repeat the process. Hell of a racket, don't keep the majority of your workforce around long enough to earn raises or benefits. And they wonder why when they called people back they said no... Hmmm. Odd.

Same thing happened to me on a merge. They did call us in after New Years to personally say... "give me your keys and dont go back to your office."

Thats why I tossed an account.

If it was planned. You would have heard sad goodbyes from the employees that wanted to say farewell.

If it was planned. There would have been a Five on Friday.

Planned as in the employees were involved. Not planned as the exec's knew and just dropped the bomb.

Not only that, if they bring in new cheap people, we go through the last years again.

Oh, 12 year old code, anyone has an idea what does what anymore? Instruction manual anyone?
Crap, I better make a new crappy clients instead of figuring out how to change what we already have.

I know how hard is it for a single new programmer to take over from a single old one. Imagine that on a project the size of UO. No wonder it takes them weeks and several tries to change a fall-through bridge or the thousand other things that should be fixed.
