I've been successful with my GD taking out the Renowned Wyvern. Is a GD the best pet choice for this task?

Against the renowned wyvern, you'll want a pet that does poison and energy damage (the wyvern's weakest resists). GD's do 100% physical damage, and the wyvern has good physical resist (avg 63). So, not such a good match offensively.

Defensively, the GD is well suited here, as the wyvern does physical and fire damage, both of which the GD has good resists against.

A combo with a rune beetle might be a better offensive match. RB's do primarily energy damage, with some poison and physical damage. They're a little worse off defensively, though, with lower phys and fire resist.

So I suppose it comes down to playstyle. Do you want to be interactive, dealing the best damage possible but having to heal your pets? Or are you OK with it taking longer but just letting the GD tank?

Number-wise, the best case scenario is a pet that deals poison and energy damage, and has high resists against physical and fire damage.

The only pet I wouldn`t bring would be a fire damage dealing one. Physical, Cold, Poison, & Energy are fairly close together. Reptalon probable has the best damage type. However, Greater Dragons have better melee skills than any other pet. With discord damage types not so important. Just for sheer convients I`d use either Cu`shide or Reptalon. For the damage type there really isn`t a good two slot pet to go with a three slot pet. Not to mention controlling two pets in the middle of a spawn.
