Dragon Lair Mini Champ

I finally decided to wander into the Abyss. I'm wanting to gather a set of Tinker Legs for my Sampire.

I don't have a lot of experience with large mobs, but its time to learn!

So, to start with, what character type would be the best to start tackling this spawn? I initially went in with my Disco Tamer and a GD but I lost control as soon as the Forgotten spawned.

Can the spawn be done with a Disco Tamer?
Would a decently (but not greatly) equipped sammy be better?

I actually don't have Resist available. If the sammy is the way to go, would I be best to train up Resist before trying this?

the easiest for me was with an archer with 115 resist, with a dragon slayer on the mini green dragons. then a dragon slayer on the wyverns, then a mischief maker on the forgotten. the trick imho is to kill the least amount of mini green dragons, just enough to promote the spawn leveling. then continue to aid the mini dragons agains the wyverns and continue to aid the mini dragons against the forgotten. took me about 60+ renowneds before i got the legs drop.

I've seen people do this spawn on tamers and melee chars.

I do it on a mage or my pure bard/mystic. It's not a good one for my pure bard really, but it could be worse.

I usually work this one on my sw/mage/tamer. Best tip I can give you on the spawn is let the spawn work for you. When the servants spawn let them and the fairy drags fight it out. When the serv's are aggroed on the drags I pull bars and wod to speed it up. Whole trick of this one is to keep luring one or two serv's out until the champ pops. More than 2 on your butt at once can be a bad deal fast.

Each of the spawns is best worked by different types of chars... I didn't really like using my tamer at the renoun wyvern at all, there was too much aggro. I used my mystmage. Some type of archer/thrower/melee/sampire could be effective there but you would want to use slayer and elemental weaps appropriate to the creatures youre trying to kill. It sounds like you don't have the resources to do that just yet.

Like she said let the spawn help kill itself. If you wanted to use your bard tamer here is what I would do. First work your karma high so the fairy dragons ignore you. Succubus, demons, ice dragon, etc are all good for karma.

Use your GD to kill the Fairy dragons. Only a few of them need to be killed for level 2 wyverns to pop. You will lose karma doing this so its good to have it high to start with so you dont go negative and the fairy drags start targeting you.

Continue helping the fairy dragons kill the wyverns. At level 3 with the elf mystic caster dudes (EMCD's), take your greater dragon out of the spawn and park him in a safe spot.

Now hopefully your bard has provoke or you can soulstone it on. The fairy dragons dont like the EMCD's and they will fight. But the EMCDs are strong and take 2-4 fairy dragons to die. So help provoke the fairy dragons on them, or the EMCDs on each other. If you get aggro just run off screen and cure and invis and come back.

I like to clear one half of the spawn to leave an open area to drag the Renoun wyvern to when he spawns.

When he spawns, drag him to your cleared area, bring your dragon back, and have at it. The renown will occasionally pop back to his spawn point if he gets too far away so be prepared to drag him back. But if you have done this all correct you should have a mostly solo fight with him.

the spawn near the Abyss Lair Entrance, that starts with mongbats and imps, is far easier to accomplish and drops insane tinker legs as well, if you find the dragon one too challenging.

Typically I do the spawn on my Bushido/Chivy Archer. Those nasty fella's at the end can be a bugger. They don't seem to friendly for blues.

Went back today and with a little patience and tact, I found it actually quite easy for my Bard/Tamer. Yes, the EMCD's are the worst part, but by isolating them from each other, the GD eats right through them (with a little Disco help)

Thanks for the advice.

Realistically if you do it in sections and lure most of the Level 1 Spawn to the bottom *And Dont let them die or slaughter them completely*, Once you start level 2 spawning, the fairy dragons from level one (Combined with your input) not only level the spawn to the wyvern, but can tank it too.

Multiple times Ive done it this way ending up with about 5-8 Fairy Dragons left when the wyvern spawned, Using them to tank it and Killing with a Bush/Archer.

You will have to kill Fairy Dragons obviously, its best to Lure as many as you can, then kill off the stragglers that spawn near the Stg Dragon Stairs. **Always one at a time to avoid accidentally killing too many**

The only complication is, after about 3 spawns of this, it gets to be an ass to keep track of the dragons you have / are trying to use, and is best to just clear it all out and start over on the 3rd or 4th run through with completely new dragons.

(The most important parts of this set up are dragging the dragons to the bottom of the spawn during level 1, not letting them die, then working from the top down [By the Stg Dragon stairs])

Did you personally get tinker legs at that other spawn or was it reported to you by someone else ?

I am asking, because I have not heard anyone reporting it as of yet, you are the first one that I see reporting it.

The Dragon spawn works itself from Level 2 to Finish if you set it up properly and is one of the easiest spawns in the abyss.

i've had it reported to me by a few different players who said they got their leggings from the Devourer of Souls (renowned). i haven't personally farmed it out myself, but the sources seemed reliable and i found it on uoguide's artifact list, which i haven't found to be wrong so far.

Quite easy to solo on a mage/mysitc/spellweaver
That's what I do, using dragon slayer spellbook and SDI jewelry. RC, Eagle Strike, Mind Blast and a few others.

Takes about 15 minutes to finish the spawn.

You have the right template with a Disco Tamer. It is the fatassed GD is your handicap. I perfer to use a pack. Do the time to rotate a preadtor hellcat or hellhound spawn. Get you 5 of best stats set and train on the vorpral bunny till they bond. Gain experience learning the packs strength and weakenesses. You may find yourself using the pack more then the GD. As a Disco Tamer that has never had a dragon or nightmare grace my stables, I never seen the need after hunting with Frenzies over decade ago.

For those that hate tamer training. None the one slot tames need more the 90 skill. After 8 years of not breaking 90 skill in taming, the only reason I trained over 87 skill is for the extra stabling. There is a reason for no new pack one slot tames. They got it right the first time.

As i said, if you set it up properly, You can use the Fairy Dragons to tank the Wyvern, Hell on one occasion I had dragons left after the wyvern died, meaning they tanked it 100%.

Cant say thats too difficult. :spider:

I also use a Mystic/Mage/SW. The RC clears the baby dragons and wyverns, but when it comes to the Blue Boys and the renowned I always cast Arcane Empowerment so that the RC isn't dispelled (even with 120/120 Myst/Focus most hi lvl beasties can dispell RC if not "empowered" beforehand).

I had Stealth and Hide before, so I could cast RC then search bodies - very good loot on entire spawn - but soulstoned Eval back onto char. Now I use Dragon Slayer spellbook to speed up Renowned's demise...
