Does a "cartographized" TMap have a timer-Can a diff char dig up chest later?

I hate to waste the money on a THunter template, I already have GM mining and LPick.

My guild/alliance has a few T-Hunters already, but hard to get everyone in-game at same time. Is it possible for me to give a THunter a dozen tmaps and have them "cartographized" for me, so thta I can dig up and lpicl chests at my lesisure? Or do the newly deciphered maps have a timer?

Ty in advance!

No timer, but if you can't read the map, you can't find the chest to dig it.

It's not a lot of money to train Cartography to GM... about 10,000 blanks scrolls (or less) at 5 gold each (or less in Felucca) and about 200 map pens at 8 gold each (or less!). If you sell the maps you make back to the Mapmaker, you can reclaim about half that cost. Total cost is around 50K... or less!

Time to train is more of an issue, but using the satyr in the Twisted Weald you should be able to GM in about 10-15 hours total (four days for me while reading UHall). If you collect the scrolls up front, it will take even less time.

The character that decodes the map is the one that has to dig it up. Though currently, once a map is decoded you can stone off the skill and still read the map.

Thank you all!

The play time to train Cartography is what I am worried about. Would the real Cart 85 skill - paired with a 15+ Cartography Talisman - allow me to decipher the high level maps? Or do I need "real" GM skill?

Ty again!

If you have cartography you can decifer the map then take cartography off and still dig it up. If you didnt decifer it someone else did you will need cartography to dig it up.

I found out the hard way by using one char to decifer them, then realised he wasnt going to be any good at killing the guardians!! So i either have to run with lp and cartog on the char ill use to do the job or wait for them to all get locked again and re decifer in 30 days.

I haven't actually tried it, but I believe that talisman will work the same as real skill.

Unless cartography is and exception, craft talismans do not add to your actual skill level, only your chance to succeed.

No, you'll need real skill.

The Cartography bonus talismans are just a crafting bonus, such as making the tattered wall maps (which, by the way, have to have all their ingredient maps be initially decoded AND dug up/picked by the same character that is making the wall map)

Why not allow players to decode maps for other characters?

Surely, the idea of decoding the map is to decipher the obfuscation the mapmaker used to conceal the treasure's whereabouts. Once you've figured that out, what would be to stop you making an adventurer-friendly treasure map of it? Just take one of the thousands of maps you made training, and scrawl an 'X' on it.

Just an idea.

Thanks again!

I found 6.0 worth of Cart sot's in my goodie box, so will only need to train form 85 to 94, then eat sot's. - after buying Adv template.

Satyr time:)

Shoot... there goes that idea to use a cartography talisman to squeeze in a bit of mining.

why would you need mining?

that just allows you to be further away from the chest.

if your good at map reading you dont need it, hehe.

There used to be a 10 second delay between making maps to train carto, anyone remember that? It sucked big time.

I usually save up maps, decode them and then stone carto so I can put LP back on (disco tamer so full template). It works pretty well, though guess I'm gonna have to see what they're doing with barding skills and chest guardians now.

If you already have the other skills, don't waste your money on the advanced character token. Getting to 85 cartography only takes a couple hours.

Buy a few thousand scrolls and some mapmaker pens (tinker exceptional ones to save time if you can). Buy a bunch of bags/pouches. Put 150 scrolls in a bag, make maps, dump bag in trash can, repeat.
