How many folks enter any info in their profiles? How many folks check out other peoples profiles?

I said I have one and that's somewhat a lie ... but I used to have one but since the EC came out it deletes all the time so I can't have one anymore.

Not sure why it constantly deletes itself but it does. Nothing I put in it either in 2d or the EC will stay.

I do have several characters with completed profiles.

I read many profiles on other people.

I always thought of the profile as an RP enhancement.

How do you log out? Because some things don't save if you hit the 'x', and you have to use the "log out" to save them.

I usually say hello and my ICQ number. I open other people's out of habit. Some people put a bit of effort into their profiles.

My favorite part of UO is building characters and outfitting them. So I usually put my template in my profile so I can remember it when I am jumping from char to char while still in development.

This has been my experience and I have no idea how to reproduce it because it's so incredibly random. I can have it stay the same for a week, then be deleted without me doing anything to it.

I would, but the bug-ridden EC deletes it after each log-in.
I've noticed a couple of folks mentioning problems with the EC. First you MUST log out of the EC properly or it doesn't save changes. I've had whole hotbars disappear cause I didn't do it the right way. I don't have any problems with profiles myself using either client.

One trick I use is to compose the profile using the Classic Client, then log out. It will show up in either client when you log into that character. (I don't remember exactly why I started using the 2d client for profiles but I think I found that the EC allows for more text and so I use the 2d to stay in the parameters of both.)

Hope that helps, and thanks to the folks responding to the survey!

(To that guy asking about the "I haven't gotten around to it yet." option... well today is as good a day as any! Start writing!

I have tried posting it in the 2d client and all but it doesn't stay.... it gets constantly deleted in the EC by no fault of my own..... since I have done NOTHING to it. Infact the first I noticed it was sometime after I began playing in the EC I noticed it had somehow gotten wiped.... so I painstakingly rewrote it and put it back..... next day it was gone again... And not to be a jerk but I know how the hell to log out properly.... I use Pinco's UI and I log out with the log out button that is provided.... or I go to the menu and use LOG OUT.... I don't hit the red X at the top.

I've been logging in and out 100's of times with my well over 300 characters for YEARS... and my profile has NEVER had a problem until the EC.

Now why some of my characters seem capable of keeping their profile and others don't is beyond me.

Perhaps it's because on this particular character there are 2 Malag's on the shard. ONe is Malag Aste the other is Malag'aste.... Perhaps that makes some difference or whatever I don't know..... there is also a Malag of some sort or another on EVERY shard.

Hmm... sorry my advice was not helpful. I realize this isn't the best solution, but you could write your profiles in Notepad, then copy-and-paste them into the paperdoll when they go poof. You probably knew that already though... kinda a pain as well if you have 300 characters. I would hate to see your monthly UO bill.

I used to use profiles -- long ago -- and still look at others'... might start using them again on some of my characters.

All my chars have something in their profile, and have since '98. Back in the day, when socializing was half the game, most everybody had something to read there. Now, almost no one.

Before Luna, before Trammel/Fel, even before Brit bank got big, most everybody hung at Vesper Bank... Every time I go there and see all the empty space that used to be so crowded - I get a bit sad...

Perhaps many players don't know about how to access their or other's profiles... Lord knows there's not a lot of help for newbies in UO.

My profile just consists of my character babbling IC about nothing at all, spewing incomprehensible psychotic nonsense, and raging about females. It reflects his behaviour in the game (he's a bit like a medieval Charlie Sheen, really). I consider it a tragic success.

Profiles are also useful for listing when you're selling something. I'm pretty sure people do read them, because whenever I put up an advertisement that I'm selling something pretty sought-after, I usually get a quick response.
