First of all Im a PVMER. Im a BARD for crying outloud . Its so lame how a archer can kill u in 2 hits. Trying to invis? boom interrupted. BOOM ur dead.

Im only hear to pvm and get POWERSCROLLS because Im sick of FAILING at spells an MAGERY is my DEFENSIVE skill with a MAGE WEAPON. But I STILL GET INTERRUPTED with it. do i need more DCI and to cast Protection...? although..then I wouldnt have FAST CASTING. as a mage.

of course its not that its FEL that's bothering me..I was taking the RISK but it was not worth the REWARD of NO-FRICKING-THING!. I run champ spawns with my guild, I am a CASUAL PLAYER though and I do want to finish my character and enjoy myself. still have never gotten a 120 scroll directly. Blah

I watched a WOW player playinn battle grounds last night and he seeming to be having fun..point is, UO should have some kind of PVP arena like that. NOT MIXING UP PVM with PVP. In a situation where monsters were attacking everybody indiscriminatnly i would think the humans at least would band together instead of killing each other for power scrolls, although I think the PK maybe was killing me just for the sake of it. I think a classic shard would be fun because i get the feeling it was actually slightly more balanced back then? I was only 11 in 98 though.

PKers also seem to have the gear advantage with factions...

PvP is fun but its not balanced IMO and anybody who cant understand why PVMers want access to power scrolls in Tram need to take a reality check.

Discuss.

Only commenting on the PvP part (as I am sure there will be dozens of no powerscrolls in Trammel responses to follow) PvP has never been balanced. There has always been a template or 2 that was more powerful than another. Archers are just the flavor du jour, and they are crying nerf in a big way. There are dozens of threads here on this same topic.

It's not.

Players adapt by playing gimplets of the year as well or try to play their existing templates much better and enjoy the challenge.

Yes, I think it is balanced right now. I've played for over 10 years and it seems it's more balanced than ever before. The only real "over-powered" template I've seen is a dread mare dismount archer who throws explosion potions for 30+ damage per pot. Fortunately not too many people play that template or know how to. If you are having problems with archers, the only thing you can do to be completely safe is get 120 wrestling and 70 DCI. If no wrestling then get 70 dci, 120 magery with a mage weapon that has -20 skill on it and a +20 on ring or tally plus ring. Or you can join them and try to hope you can do more damage with your bow while spamming moving shot and AI. It's all up to you. But yeah, balance is never really true for this game because each template has it's own capabilities and downsides.

Of course it isn't balanced, lol. Never has been and never will be. No matter what they do or how they change it it will never be balance. It can get close to balance but there will always be something underpowered or overpowered.

no and it never will be completely balanced. endless changes always place new and endless new template combinations that are the "New Unbalanced Templates" .

It is a dream to seek absolute balance.

It's impossible to balance pvp in a make your own character skill game like this.
There is not a preset 6 characters you can choose from the beggining and each on is balanced for each other like other games all with a a set path boring...... This is UO unique ness where you have the freedom to put toghether 55 or so skills together to make your character. Unfortunetely we had a round of dev in the past that being trying to make certain skills dependent on other skills pushing it into another template game like all the hundreads of games out there trying to kill UO spirit of be who you want and do what you want.Being edged on by these little kids that want a WOW type game.

Since imbuing came out it has gotten worse. Now we have 1000s of archers running round in (almost) perfect suits with insane bows that just should not exist (imbued or real). The game has become even more item based, if that was possible after AoS.

Dont get me wrong, I like the system of imbuing, I think it is helpful for newer players to make suits easier etc. It is just too overdone. It needs to have more caps and restrictions put in place on what mods you can put together on an item (eg if you have 15DCI you should only be able to put a max of 10HCI on the same item regardless of what else is on there).

I proudly do not use imbued items. IMO imbuing is for nubs who dont have real items good enough to use. Sure, this means that some people have better imbued suits than I do, but I take great pleasure in owning newbs in imbued gear. For me this is about skill being more important than items, especially when we are talking about a mage in real gear vs archers in imbued crap.

Just to add:

Imbuing is just a small part of why PvP is unbalanced at the moment (and has been for years). Pots, apples, CHIV (this skill really needs to be balanced more than any other, by that i mean it should be less reliant on karma and more reliant on how much of the skill you have), some item propertys (like balanced on bows, seriously just remove it) and many more.

It still wont be balance cause there will always be something stronger and something weaker in UO. They make it more imbalance when they try to balance something because they have to balance all 55 or so skills and every combination of those skills with every combination of weaons and armor and with every combination of items with every combination of a situation.
Why do straight pvp games have only 3-7 characters to choose from with maybe minor difference between them and there weapons and armor and items?Because it's possible to balance that and even so they still have to keep modifying them.
UO it's completely impossible. Something will always take the place of the most powerful skill set. get rid of that powererful skill set and there will be another to take it's place. Round and round it goes but it will never end untill there is no UO left and we be left with ultra old clone of a player tournament game.

You're in a catch-22 situation. You need a 120 magery scroll, 5 other 120 power scrolls, and 200 million gold worth of PvP equipment in order to be able to effectively PvP so you can get that 120 magery scroll you need. If you can't afford to PvP, you're MUCH better off just buying the scroll. If you've done a few champ spawns, you've probably noticed that, if you're on a popular shard, you do all of the work, and then a PvPer in stealth announces to his PvP guild and faction that there is, for instance, a Barracoon that has just spawned. The champ is raided and becomes a faction/PvP guild fight, with dozens of reds converging on your location from every direction, with your mostly PvM guild slaughtered in the process.

Pre-AOS, a new character could buy a suit of armor and sword for maybe 2k gold, train in the Jhelom pits for a few hours, and actually have a chance at PvP. Today, you have to have the best artifacts and several legendary scrolls before you even have a chance. The best thing to do is just continue to PvM and get the gold to buy the scrolls you need, or quit your PvM guild and join a PvP guild and the faction it's in yourself, and get some of your new guildmates to show you the art of war. Also, just because you are in a faction doesn't mean that other members of your faction won't PK you for a 120 scroll. If you get that 120 magery, eat it at once, before anybody has a chance to peek in your pack and see it, or you probably won't have it over a few seconds.

I dont think PVP balance is the issue for the poster. If I had to make a guess I would say he came to fell in a less than pvpable suit and hence died in 2 hits. The problem with most trammies is they come to Fel in suits that have absolute garbage for resists and then cry hacks when they die easily. The posters time would be better spent in trammel ruleset farming items he can sell to afford the purchase of the powerscrolls he needs. I have played for 12years and pvp has never been "balanced" however I would say the new imbuing changes have "evened" the playing field equipment wise for those that do pvp and that has made all the change for some.

Agreed on everything. Pots are fine, if a bit overdone at the moment. Apples are ridiculous (but necessary to balance out mortal shot with archery - which in turn made it near useless for mele)

65 chiv is around on all sorts of insane templates, and provides a vast healing ability at little investment.

Balance on bows is another headscratcher. Mele got nothing of the sort, yet are in more peril. Its funny, get it?

A couple other things I would add to the "why don't they just fix it for the love of god" list:

*Make resisting spells an essential pvp skill again. The circumvention of resist has enabled obscene templates across the board.

*Heavy crossbow dismounts. Need a range modifier or a delay/warning (like a bola) on it.

Then again, I have always said that Archery exists because it MUST exist in a fantasy game. Gameplay wise and mechanics wise, it does not and has never quite gelled with UO. It could be removed entirely and the game would be better for it without missing a beat.
