Do I have them all covered ?

Just returned after being away for 6 years and must say I am having so much fun learning this game again.

I love to craft and would love some feedback on my "plan of action".

I have built a new home and have set up an area for each of the professions.

Cancelled my second acct so I am not overwhelmed which leads me to my current dilema.

I will be buying the 7th character slot for my new acct and would like to have ALL crafting professions covered on 2 characters leaving 5 for actual hunting templates.

Currently I have 1 crafter who has the following.
Blacksmith - 105
Tailor - 104.6
Carpentry - 100
Tinker - 89.5
Arms Lore - 50 (will go to 100)
Magery - 62.8 (will go to 75)
Music - 45 (stopped here)

The 2nd crafter has just been started.
Alchemy - 100 (transferred via soulstone)
Lumberjack 76 (transferred via soulstone)
Cook - 23
Bowcraft/Fletch - 36
Mining - 41
Imbuing - 44

Inscription is near 100 on my mage.

I am at work writing this and hope I have not forgotten anything. Does anyone see any holes in this. Is there anything I will not be able to craft with this setup once I buy some scrolls and max my skills ??

It looks like I will be doing a lot of questing to try to obtain recipes as well !!

Thanks in advance for feedback.

My crafter is nearly the same as your first one. If you include skills from items for music and magery you could fit additional bowcraft into it. (I for myself wanted the increased di from arms lore on my crafted except bows.)
Gargoyles are getting advantages on imbuing. Therefore i wouldn't go for it with another race.
For hunting ore elementals I 've put lumberjacking and mining onto an extra char (a swordsman).
Only thing that you cant craft without switching skills around would be a soulforge and your glass weapons & bows will be without arms lore bonus. (Thought gargolyes are not really in high demand. I suppose no one will ever ask for a glass weapon.)

Ahh I see what you are saying. I forgot about the arms lore for the Bows. What I could do is drop the magery and music from crafter number one and when I wish to make items that require magery or music I can always "borrow" it from my mage or tamer using a soulstone. This way I can transfer the bowcraft to my crafter one permanantly. Thanks this is exactly the type of feedback I was looking for.

In regards to the soulstone what happens if i put 110 points of lets say music on the stone and i pull it off to a character with only 100 points of music available. Do I lose the 10 points ???

I do want to make my own soulforge for the house but I recall reading somewhere that the soulforge in Ter mur gives a bonus of some sort. Perhaps it would be nice to have one in the house just for unravelling. I wish i had more than one soulstone, it would make it easier to move these skills around lol

I have several crafters. A
miner/blacksmith/macer,
lumberjack/bowcrafter/swords/chivalry, alchemy/carpentry/tinkering/imbuing/magery
tailor/tamer/mage

None of them are ultimate performance characters but I enjoy them just the same. We have been told that if you aren't scrolled to at least the amount on the soulstone, that overage of skills will be lost permanently. If you had been playing all along you would have lots of soul stone fragments to mess with. I think you can purchase them from UO store? not sure.

You can get skills from items. Try to get a ring/bracelet pair with +15 music each. (Other mods are not of interest course you swith only onto them, when you want to craft some music instruments. Add a singing axe and you are at +35 music from items. If your crafter is an elf, you could have a go for a song woven mantle for another +10 music.)
With one empty Soulstone you could drop one full skill onto it and train afterwards musik from an NPC. This would bring music instantly to around 30 and with very few efforts in items you could boost it to 45.
You could do similar with magery. Wear jewels and a spellbook with + magery when you travel around.

Another thing to consider for your secondary crafter is imbuing. Sooner or later you want to have access to the queens soulforge in Ter-Mur. For getting its bonusses you need to have 10k loyalty rating with the queen. It is more or less easy to get, but you need decent summons (magery or mysticism or vollems or or or ....) to work it up in a reasonable time. (Its usually done by farming toxic sliths.)

Just drop the music. Are you really planning on crafting any instruments? I have a peace bard and a provoker and I've never once, with 14 crafter characters, crafted an instrument.

Personally, I hate not having mining on a smith. You'll really get annoyed having to bag up and transfer items to be smelted by another character.

Yeah I made some instruments today and they hve no properties on them. Will drop the music.

Thanks again all. Great stuff

do not forget to buy the books you need to read to make stone items and mining for stone and the book to make glass items with alchemy from the gargoyle city in ilshenar

Hrothgard: Are you human, elf or gargoyle on the carpenter?

Elf: +15 music Ring, +15 music Bracelet, Song-woven mantle (recipe elven leaf sleeves that give +10 music), and either the Singing Axe (smith recipe craftable) or the Minstrel talisman from the Britain library collection (much more expensive) for the last 5 music. End result: 0 real skill music required.

Human: As elf, but needs BOTH the Axe and the Talisman, plus 5 points of real skill.

Gargoyle: Not sure. I THINK you will be as one of the above, but have to convert the axe and sleeves (if possible) into Gargoyle counterparts, which will retain the Music bonus after conversion.

Magery: Unless you intend to do a lot of fighting (defensive, or gathering your own material), you can make do with 30 real skill, +15 magery ring, +15 Magery bracelet, and a +15 spellbook (like the Tome of Lost Knowledge, from Tokuno trade-ins).

Unfortunately, since Magery & Music are in the same skill group, you can't imbue both onto the same items, but you can always swap jewelry out during crafting (you'll want to wear the magery jewelry most of the time, anyway).

With that combination you could go (elf)

120 Blacksmith
120 Tailor
100 Carpentry
100 Tinker
100 Arms Lore
100 Bowcraft (move it back from the other crafter)
60-80 (real) Magery (80 possible for a 48+ month old character), plus items.
0 (real) music if Elf (15 real if human, with magery above 15 points lower to compensate)

That will make stuff on the second character much easier.

DO NOTE, HOWEVER....

A smith without mining cannot recycle items made of material other than iron, and will get nothing back (maybe 1 ingot per item) if they do that.

You'll have to use character 2 to salvage (preferably with a salvage bag) or unravel the Smith's rejects.

Alternatively, you could put smith on Character 2, as well, since Bowcraft is on the Arms lore character, and use it for things like filling BODs, and claiming an extra couple BODs per day (but turning the BODs in with the 120).
