Discussion: exceptional resists bonus

Since there was just a discussion about somewhere else ...

* An exceptionally made piece of Armor will gain a +15 point bonus that is distributed randomly among the base properties of that item. For example, an exceptionally made plate tunic could have +3 applied to Physical, +4 to Fire, and +4 to each Cold and Poison. Or, and this would be extremely rare, all 15 could be added to Physical, making it quite a valuable piece of armor. Exceptionally crafted Weapons get a 35% Damage Increase bonus.

* Exceptional armor crafted with a runic hammer will gain a +6 bonus, whereas exceptionally-crafted weapons will gain a 20% bonus to damage.
(Footnotes from Base Properties | Mythic Entertainment | Ultima Online)

Funny thing ... I know that the UOherald is out of date for some stuff. But while except runic crafted weapons are getting the 35% di bonus, the reduced +6 bonus to resists on armour parts still applys.

I want to put this into discussion becourse the different resist bonuses are not mentioned anywhere else. Or at least, I couldnt find:
- Exceptional - UOGuide, the Ultima Online encyclopedia
- UO Stratics *New* | Items: Base Properties (footnotes)

The question is now, if someone should correct the infos at uoguide and stratics or if we should claim it to be a bug that should be fixed soon. (You know, usually software developers are really good in fixing what was never broken. :D Thought there is a little risk becourse they could decide that 6 bonus resist is the correct value and not 15.)
I tried to nail those values down within the publish notes, but all i found, was that it was pub 19, which changed the exceptional bonuses.

Wow, this stuff is way over my head! So what is it that is wrong? Are runic crafted armor pieces not getting the 6 point bonus?

I don't understand what you are asking.

Exceptional Bonus for Runic crafted armor is +6, where as non-runic is +15. The information about the weapon bonus is screwy though. I have never crafted an exceptional weapon with less than 35% DI with a runic.

The point is, that I have met/heard of players, who dont know that runic crafted armour parts are not getting the +15 exceptional bonus but instead the old +6 bonus.

To my knowledge, runic armor has always had the +6 bonus (never the +15 bonus, like non-runic armor). Runic armor is not supposed to get the +15 bonus.

The +20% bonus was the amount before the change to +35%.

In other words, someone forgot to update the footnotes.

There was also a time where the Exceptional bonus ADDED TO the runic value, for a very short time in early AoS, if I remember correctly.

That (which ended fairly quickly), or having +20% as the runic base (to make getting runic DI less of a booby prize) was something that never made it out of internal testing.
