Hi All

This is my first post but I've lurked forever but I now find myself in a dilemma that I need UO vets opinion on what the best thing to do is.

I recently cancelled the rental contract on a naked vendor that I had rented to someone after not seeing him in game or on ICQ for as long as I can remember.

Well it cancelled out today and in my moving crate there is a satchel with 374 Million checks.

Now I don't know the guy I just rented the vendor spot so I don't know how he came by so much or whether he is even active anymore.

So what do I do?

He's no longer on ICQ so I can't contact the guy about it.

If I keep it and it's duped I could be in trouble.

If I trash it and it's duped I could be in trouble because of the cleanup points.

Any and all advise is most welcome.

as far as i know there is no 'current dupe' in game right now.
and hasnt been for a while.

im sure taking the gold and using it would be fine.
im sure if it was duped you would have all already received a visit from the duping police.

if in doubt, which im not, but you can always call a GM and ask him.

im sure youll get a canned message, but at least you used due diligence.

hell, ill come take it off your hands, PM me or icq.

:)

I think cashing the checks and then turning them back into checks changes the Item ID on it?

Keep it.
I have more then that on vendors.
put 200 million on a vendor. Hold it for a month. If no one comes asking or if you cant be sure it is the player keep the 200 million.

Spend the 174 million.

They had plenty of time to figure it out.

Its gold. Its not duped. And the check from a vendor aren't in check form till the vendor decays. So you have fresh checks.

Dont worry about it.

I wouldnt complain dude. As a shop owner its your right to keep anything thats left if the vendor owner dosnt come back. His loss tbh.

1. Put the checks in your bank a bit at a time (obviously you can't fit all 374 in there at once).

2. Set up your own personal vendor. Stock it with some BoDs in a BoD book, each priced in the millions.

3. Buy the BoDs with the character that has all the checks in their bank box, thus transferring the 374 million onto the vendor in several pieces (supposedly, this is how people are able to store large amounts of gold on their vendor beyond the 1,000,000gp limit).

4. Let the vendor sit with no stock on it for 6 months, thus only wasting 60gp a day for a grand total of roughly 10,800gp or so. If, during that 6 months, you are unable to locate the original vendor owner, and they make no attempt to contact you, either, the money is yours.

Some people have the most rotten luck ;-)

I liked the suggestion to "buy yourself something nice". I'd add, don't spend it all in one place.

Yup this dont really sound fishey.
A vendor is basically a gold store these days and 374 million really aint that much gold anymore (i know i have nowhere near that ammount either but its true)

As others have said. Go buy that PvM suit you've been dreaming about for years ;)

Just a thought , we do have men and women in other country's fighting wars, could be doing a tour. Thats why I was gone for over 2 years from the game... I would not like to come back thinking my gold was in a safe place to find out the person I trusted to place a vendor at their house cancelled the contract and took it all. I will say this I would have told you I would be gone for some time is my vendor safe here? Also I had know idea that the house owner could do that I thought the gold went to my bank box if he/she cancelled the contract, learn something new everyday I guess....

Welcome to the posting side of Stratics SilverScamp :)

You picked a great day especially with your honesty and question. What I've done in the past is keep player's items for 3-6 months. That's a reasonable amount of time to give anyone if you feel guilty over a shopping spree.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

You have to look at it as a business dude. You operated a vendor mall. A vendor sat naked with no items on it for ages so as a businessman you try to get hold of the owner but cant (He's never online say) so you cancel the contract giving the guy up to a week to notice. The Vendor moves to your Moving Crate and spends another 5 days sitting there waiting for the guy to notice... He dosnt.

At the end of the day your not his/her's personal banker and regardless of if he's offline for x-amount of time its his duty to save/protect his own items. He obviously dosnt really care about it otherwise he would have empited it ages ago. You've upheld your side of the deal, he defaulted on his. The money is now yours, in game terms and by default.

OldUOFan were I going to redeploy I would definitely tell someone that I would be leaving the country for a bit with an unspecific return date. At least that was always how I handled my issues back then.

I would not like to come back thinking my gold was in a safe place to find out the person I trusted to place a vendor at their house cancelled the contract and took it all.
But the key is you'd have told the person you were renting the vendor from - since the deal is two-way, between BOTH parties. I sympathise with the situation of people away on military service, but others can't keep holding on forever on the chance that might be the case - the person involved could have quit, been banned, become ill, died, tons of things that might have happened, but after a long period of time without any contact at all, it's not really fair on the person renting the vendor to keep them open indefinitely without any word, or ask that they use their storage space to keep things for someone who might, or might not, come back.

The house owner here would be unable to move home or sell this plot, say, without collapsing the vendor, and may be unable to place another vendor for another person because of the slot taken up by this one and getting this 'inherited' storage issue. He appears to have waited a very reasonable time, tried to contact the person involved and can't - it's hard to argue other than this stuff has simply been 'abandoned'.

Now should this vendor owner subsequently reappear with a good reason why they have been gone so long, I'm pretty sure the OP will try to restore a fair amount of what was 'lost', and I'm also sure that if the original vendor owner and the OP shout out here and we are convinced it's the genuine original owner, quite a lot of us would chip in to help. It's that sort of community.... but as it stands, I reckon the OP is perfectly entitled to use this money any way he sees fit.

The player left. Take the checks. The checks are fresh made at collapse of vendor.

Dang people. Relax and bank the gold.

Oddly, that's the sort of post I had in mind when I said in my earlier one "and I'm also sure that if the original vendor owner and the OP shout out here and we are convinced it's the genuine original owner, quite a lot of us would chip in to help."..... ;)

This makes me wonder where in Sosaria the most 419 letters originate.

"Dear Esteemed and Most respect Hnest person

Lately, since uncle of immense means and gratitude left enrmous money in exceptional vendor, I am in need of esteeming honest respectful persons like you to help me with small investment to make all very rich. Please send all money you have to Nujel'm bank, care of small leather pouch, and I send you much avarice in return.

Trustfully yours"

Funny. I just sent $500 and my SSI number to Africa. In a few weeks I will be a millionaire.

What did they sell would be the big question. 2-3 Mace & Shield glasses at all times and all other turn in hot items. More Ingots and/or wood that could be sanely gathered, nonstop stockage. Loads of Valorite Runic armor and weapons they didn't even have the pride to put their crafters name on. Few 100k relic frags is always a red flag.

Had same thing with a vendor on the museum turn in frostwood scripting trip. Items still on vendor I gave away free or put in auction with no reserve and spent the gold at the player run auctions. I have not rented a vendor spot in years. 25k a week thats like what a dozen Swoops vs tarnishing my vendor house reputation?

Thanks for the advice all

I was mainly worried about if it was duped or not. I asked a GM and got a lovely canned mail saying they couldn't help me with this issue so due diligence done.

I'm not going to feel guilty about spending the gold as the vendor has been there for over 4 years rented at the princely sum of 5k a month.

I only get to play UO about 2-3 hours a week if I'm lucky so I can now finally afford to scroll up my characters and finally afford to make a sampire problem is theres nothing to buy on my shard.

What's the best shard to go shopping on and can you transfer to another shard and back on the same day?

Thanks again.

Atlantic has all the stuff, but also usually the highest prices (because it has all the stuff). But you are now 374,000,000gp richer, so it shouldn't be a problem for you.
